I gave it 4 starts but only because it was slow in a few places. I thought the story ended up being much more unique that I expected and I thought there were some really great characters that will probably stick with me for awhile. Glad this was not the typical end of the world story!

Michelle (artemitch) I have a review of this book, but I kind or rambled in it, but basically I really enjoyed it! [review if interested: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...]

I really liked that it moved from present to past, and that we meet several, different characters and their connections to each other, whether strong or weak. I loved the haunting atmosphere of the story, and how subtly morose the prose is. Makes you wonder about what would happen if an apocalypse came out of nowhere.

Great review, Michelle!

I will say that for some reason, the farther and farther I get away from this book, the less I remember why I liked it enough to give it four stars. I read a lot of post-apocalyptic literature, so my opinions are probably skewed by that.

I know what you mean! Sometimes my opinion of a book changes after some time has passed. I think time reveals how you really feel about the book and whether or not you were as affected by it as much as you thought you were. I have not read a lot of post-apocalyptic literature, so I can't really say what my opinion is compared to other books! If you have any good ones, I'd love to check them out (:

Here are some of my favorite post apocalyptic books:

Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank

The Stand by Stephen King The abridged version

I have heard good things about Swan Song by Robert McCammon and it is on my Christmas wish list.
