What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I am not certain, but am sure I read the book before 2004. It was a murder mystery. Local boys would come up missing and be found raped and murdered in the peat bog/marsh. The thing that stuck with me most is how/why the murderer was abducting/raping/murdering the boys. When he was younger he was caught masturbating, and then beaten with a belt. The buckle of the belt would come around and hit him in the stomach. So when he was raping the boys he would cut into their bellies with a knife.

What country/region is it set in, what time period? Standalone or part of series? Author male or female?

don't remember country, I think the book was set before the 90's (I also think it was probably written before then) I think it was a stand alone. Don't remember anything about the author. I really don't remember much about the book except for the pull off.

Amber, the usual wait period for a bump is 30 to 90 days.

Having said that, do you remember HOW the boys were found? Was a letter--or some other clue--sent so that the police knew where to look? Was gather peat a regular occupation (if so, I'd suggest Ireland or England as the setting, since both have/had an active peat gathering society.) There are other places in Europe where they have found bog bodies, so it could be somewhere else in Europe. Was the setting a city, town, country?

Liralen, none of those. Kate, bog child is too new. I am pretty sure I read this in the time frame between my junior year of highschool in 98 and before I was 22 in 2004. And because it was so long ago I don't remember much, I have listed everything I remember about the book.

I still have not figured it out.

The setting could be the bogs of Ireland. I found a few books with bodies in bogs but not boys - Bog Warriors, Haunted Ground, Lake of Sorrows. But I can't find anything about your book. sigh. Good luck with your hunt!

The book I read the victims were boys, killed and left in a bog. And since it was so long ago I read the book I really don't remember much more.
