Although a girl well-versed in the art of defiance with the ever-present rebellious and sarcastic streak in her personality, Aubrey Valentine is not your average teenager. She is a girl who has seen the worse humans can do to their own kind, and has experienced it first-hand.
Behind an unemotional facade lies a determined spirit, a girl well-versed in the art of defiance. Far from the vindictive person she is now but who would she be if she didn't push back when her enemies have pushed her too far? Aubrey had always been a bold one, someone who rarely backed down from the challenges presented to her, even beating them with style. But ever since disaster struck her life, every brave act she now did had a sense of purpose.
All Aubrey had ever wanted was a life free of restrictions — to be able to do whatever she pleased without anything to restrain her or anyone to judge her. All she wanted to be was Aubrey Valentine. But from where she stands now, such a dream seems too far from her reach. Despite struggling with who she has become, she regrets every fiber of what she is now. But to preserve whatever's left of the world that's free of fear and pain outweighs her own wants, and here she is now, serving that cause.
Aubrey is terrified of what she is capable, even loathes herself up to a point. There is no doubt of her being protective to a fault but even she has to protect others from herself. A shadow of guilt accompanies her at every turn and there is always a guarded air to her. But no matter how much hate for her own being had welled up in her chest, Aubrey has chosen to not let it consume her. Even in the wake of the worst, she had always taught herself to never give up.
