🏹 Book/Challenge Rules
(view spoiler)
🏹 Find a Category
As you read, your books should be allocated to one of 4 categories. These are: weapons, defense, food and shelter. While we have given suggestions to help with where to place each book, we encourage creativity. If a book isn’t allocated a category, then it won’t receive any points. -- If you are stuck for ideas, post here for your team to assist you in finding a spot. Be creative! Any book can be made to work We do not need a certain number of categories, so put the primary down on the SS, you do not have to put a second unless you want to.
Stuck? Examples of how to use
These are suggestions. Trust your gut and don’t overthink placement.

I'm Erin and love taking part in competitive team challenges such as this one, especially with NRBC as they tend to have the best of the best for these types. Book Games is a newer conception and I'm delighted to see what the mods have in store for us all with it.
I love pre-planning and spreadsheets but am also a huge mood reader who deviates from plans all the time. I try to combine my large page count books with smaller for NRBC challenges. I love almost all fiction for the most part, although I'm very picky on High Fantasy, High Sci-Fi, and Historical depending. I love Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, and some Romance - but hate Erotica. Love mysteries of all type - psychological, cozy, noir, hard case crime, Perry Mason, courtroom, legal thrillers, police procedurals. Unlike many readers on these challenges, I love horror of all types! I read some non-fiction as well, mainly with some bios, true crime, etc.
I get very into these games so you'll see me around often :)
I have a son who is turning 23 this Sunday, three adorable cats: Malz, my grumpy elderly tabby who rules the roost, including me, with swipes but loves cuddling constantly; Oscar, my sneaky gray and white youngest who likes playing fetch with balls and teasing the others; Raven, my timid female calico who likes watching TV and is just adorable and tiny.
I work from home primarily in social services admin role, which is draining but rewarding. I'm off weekends and am able to pop in through the day through the week. I drink tons of homemade lattes and at least one pot of tea every other day, so that fits in with me being a night owl as well!
Also curious: Has anyone here read the Hunger Games series or watched the movies? I read the first book a long time ago and need to re-read it. Have seen the movies, except the last, but it's been awhile.

I need the Shelf Links created and linked here for these members:
I have the shelves already and links for every other team member, thank you.
Once you have created your shelf link, please put in your introduction post or a separate post below.

I'm Lisa. I live in Ohio with my two cats. I work nightshift, so my sleep schedule is a little messed up and you might find me on here at all hours as I can get a little obsessed too.
I probably like fantasy best, but also read historical fiction, contemporary fiction, rom-coms, and mysteries. I don't really care for most non-fiction so that is the main genre I stay away from.
I read all of the hunger games books back when they came out, so I don't remember them in great detail. I never saw the movies.
I'm looking forward to playing and getting to know you all!

I need to re-read the Hunger Games series sometime, I know the first book at least was on Kindle unlimited last time I looked :)

I also need to reread hunger games it's been ages.

You work in a hospital and have an 8 month old?? I can't imagine how much energy that has to take!!
It may be fun if some of us have time to re-read The Hunger Games, at least the first book, during the team challenge as a little buddy read. We shall see! If anyone decides they are in the mood to read it, let me know :)

Several of you already know me as we've been on teams before or are in groups together--some of you know me well🤭!
For those who don't, I'm Robin! I reside in Middle TN-- just south of Nashville. I'm disabled therefore I'm home, reading and on GR MOST of the time! It's just me and my mother here, so I have quite a bit of free time--unless the grandsons are here.
I have two grown sons, ages 30(on May 13th) and 33. I have two biological grandsons(youngest son's sons) ages 5(April 30th) and 6 ( 7 in August). I have 2 step-granddaughters, ages 15 and 9(my grandson's half sisters/youngest son's step-daughters). My youngest son is married and lives about an hour away and my oldest son recently got engaged and lives about 10 mins away!
Currently I have no furbabies, I lost one dog in 2021 and one in 2022, and can't decide if I will get another one. I have 2 granddogs though, that I watch often.
I am a book and challenge addict. I don't watch tv and ALWAYS have an audiobook on and several books on the go at all times! I read across all age levels and genres. My favorite genres are HF, YA, LGBTQ+, Mystery, some Horror/Suspense/Thriller, Juvenile Fiction and non-fiction, MG, GN, and some NF--biography/memoirs that read like fiction. I love epistolary, diary and odd formats, as well as novels written in verse. I will typically avoid romance UNLESS it's lightly mixed in with another genre. I'm a moody reader sometimes and am a cover lover--I will judge a book by it's cover!
I'm usually the heaviest reader on a team so I normally pick up and claim all the tasks that my team mates don't want. That's a lot of the fun of team challenges for me. I will take one, two or ten for the team to pull us through. If someone is struggling and can't finish their books, IF I know it in time, I will help you out!
I have read the Hunger Games--I read all of them in 2022. If the team would like to read them, I will read them again with y'all!
Erin and I have been GR friends for over a year now??? We do a lot of team & partner challenges together 😊 I'm over the moon to be on her Book Games team! So, if I'm on here giving her a hard time, it's all in good fun! She's used to it🤣
I'm really looking forward to hanging out,reading/discussing books and chatting with all you! I'm a fairly laid back person and enjoy the company!
Without further ado, let the FUN AND GAMES begin!!!

Hi Lisa!
First let me say "GO BUCKEYES!!!" I was born in WV and have a lot of family in that area as well as in Ohio! Me and both sons are big OSU/Buckeye fans!
Although I don't work, I'm usually a night owl and have odd sleeping hours as well. So you are liable to see me here at odd/weird times too!

Hi Christene!!! Hope all is well with you! 😊 We were just on MVBO Witches together so it's nice to see you here as well!

I prefer a real book to an e-book but about 5 years ago I started listening to audiobooks when my work commute changed, and I love them as well and that has increased my reading. I am a big library user and am currently on the Board of Directors of the local library where I live now, of course I am the treasurer and actually served on the Board of Directors of a local library where I grew up for 25 years!
I'll read almost anything if I have to for the team, but my favorites are Historical Fiction, Fiction, Mystery and Thriller. I'm not a fan of SciFi but I do like Fantasy.
I read the The Hunger Games series about 7 years ago and did see the movies. I will read them again now with this challenge.
I was on Tower Teams with Erin and Robin last year. I have also been teams with Shannon, Paula and Rachel in the past as well. Hi ladies👋🏻😃

Hi Bernadette!!! How are you? It's good to see you and be on a team with you again!
I bet you are glad April 15th has come and gone!
I'm still audibooking too! And of course the physical books.
I'm still not getting into the ebooks either, although I did win a Kobo from my library's Winter Challenge. I opened it, turned it on and kinda set it up. I couldn't figure out how to use Libby on it. I got frustrated with it, turned it off and put it back in the box🤣
I'm still using my library about every week/every other week too! That's my happy place where I could spend hours and hours! I love it!
I'm excited to see you and look forward to the next few months of chatting and reading with you!

I'm Char, and I'm from India
I'm 22 and currently interning as a software developer in a semiconductor company in India till June end, but I'll be joining them as an employee in July/August, as well as completing my last semester of my bachelors.. It ends on May 3rd week, right at the start of this challenge, so thats a win!
I'm down for reading The Hunger Games again!
I can read any genre, but prefer Fantasy, Romance and Mystery.. I dont mind Historical Fiction either
Cant wait to have fun!

As Robin is already aware, I was absolutely delighted she would be with us - I adore her in team challenges and just in general, around Goodreads and off. As she said, we enjoy teasing banter and get excited about challenge planning, strategy, reading, and just general chit chat in these games. As she stated, she's great for filling in leftover books and taking some of the harder tasks - her library stacks she has shared with me in the past are truly impressive!! She also have the magic ability to listen to audio at ridiuculously high speeds. 🤣

I'm sure tax season was busy and I doubt you get as much reading done during tax season, but maybe it's a good distraction! Nice to have you on our team again! :) And it sounds like almost all of us seem to be willing to do a re-read of Hunger Games as a buddy read - what fun!

Congrats on the upcoming graduation and being hired! Sounds like this summer will be a big one for you in many ways!

If any of you have any book tokens from this year, let me know, I looked at the SS but did not see any.
I am skipping The Malevolent Seven. It looks cute and good ratings, but NONE of my digital libraries carry it, and I belong to a lot - not even to put a hold on it. It's like the e-book hardly exists! Also not available on Hoopla or Audible Premium. I don't want to spend 10 on the Ebook or even more with an Audible credit, but do hope anyone who can find the book somewhere enjoys it.

Since this is the first round of Book Games, we have to see how some of it will work. From my understanding, we do not need to gather a certain number of the four materials: Weapons, Defense, Food, and Shelter --- as long as a book works for it, and they have made it where every book can somehow work. Just in case, there is a second tab on here if you want to make a note of another way your book can work, but you only need to put one if you prefer.
All should have access to the planning SS without requesting additional access, but if any issues arise, let me know.
If you absolutely HATE SS posting, you can put your finished books in this thread for a captain or co-captain to move later --- otherwise, please just use the SS, you do not have to double or triple post your work.
The last tab is a Countdowns tab to show when each round begins and ends, and when the mini's start and end - looks like we have three of each to look forward to.
Although the challenge does not start until May 15, feel free to put any planning books on any of the tabs if you choose to and want to already start some pre-planning. Otherwise we will see what we get accomplished during the actual challenge, which while it is 10 days away (will feel like 30!!) -- just please remember you cannot start a book before the 15th!

What month do you think? May works for me fine for the first book, but I know it is half a month, so if you want to wait until June, let me know.

I'm Paula, I'm 33 years old (on may 22nd I'll turn 34), I live with my husband (we just married on March 23)
I'm from Santiago, Chile and I'm a project manager at a mining and environmental consulting firm, so I work a lot, but I manage to read a couple of pages everyday.
I love team challenges, and I usually like to be part of the captain crew, but lately I haven't been able to do it well, so now I'm only reading.
I'll probably be checking in once a week, but I do love spreadsheets so I will update my books on time :).
I'm on the phone, but as soon as I get on the computer I'll post my shelf

Nice to meet you, Paula! I have a terrible memory but don't believe we have played on the same team before, but who knows as I'm everywhere and again, terrible memory. Happy to have you aboard!

My name is Rachel and I live in the Washington, D.C. area where I work for the federal government. I love reading romances, mysteries, horror, and non-fiction, especially history and books about current events.
I'm usually good about reading 5 or so books a month but have found that my reading has been down a little bit this year, so I'm only listed for 2 books a month this challenge. I promise to still do my best to contribute to our team, though!

Saying you work for the "federal government" sounds so mysterious with the phrasing.
Even if you only can do the 2 books a month you signed up for, hope to see you around for some fun discussion :)

SHUCKS!!! Thanks Erin! I'm ecstatic to be here and ready to get started. I will be getting started on some planning soon!
I will happily share my library book hauls here! Looks like a lot of us enjoy reading the same types/genres of books!
I foresee some book recommendations to start flying and shelf trolling taking place among us 😁
These are the times that I don't care if my TBR mountains increase!
Yes, Chipmunk speeds for me on those audiobooks...I just can't listen at anything slower than 2x or 3x normal speed...it's way to slow. It's like listening to a boring professor with a monotone voice--not for me 🤣

Thanks Erin! When I start lining up some books I will probably start putting them on the SS. I have some things to finish up for my other 500+ challenges so will be working on those first, but will DEFINITELY be ready to go with something on the 15th!

I'm good for it whenever everyone else is! I'll jump in!

Congratulations are in order for you as well on your wedding!
Glad to have you on the team and look forward to seeing what you are reading!!!

Hi Rachel!! Nice to meet you!
🤦♀whew! You're not alone! Sometimes I recognize avatars and not names! But it's ok, some memory is better than none at all😁
No worries from us...one book or 50 a month, we are all about having fun and enjoying ourselves! Maybe we are just what you need as we tend to be GREAT enablers....for reading and adding books to the TBR!
Glad to have you here with us and look forward to reading and playing with you😊

I foresee some book recommendations to start flying and shelf trolling taking place among us 😁."
Yes, do share your library hauls from time to time with us, I enjoyed that other years. Love seeing what people are reading and recommending. I finished a semi-sucky book yesterday evening and going to start on my book club book today, then try to finish out the Otherworld series re-read and some others before the 15th.
The 15th gets here slowly but also in other ways too quickly!

I live in Paris so I'm in the central european time zone, but I'm usually on goodreads at any given hour of the day (and night). I tend average about 6-7 books a month and I'm a BIG mood reader, but for this challenge I'm planning on getting out some of the chunkier books on my TBR which means I may be reading fewer books. Then again, when I get in the competition mood I can really step on the gas so we'll see how it goes.
When it comes to genres, I really will read anything. The most important thing to me about a book is the writing itself, so as long as the writing is good the subject matter hardly matters to me. I also love buddy reads, but that being said I think I will sit out the Hunger Games read. I've reread the trilogy many times and the most recent was quite recent. My friend was reading them for the first time so I joined him. It's a bit too fresh to merit a reread
I'm really looking forward to this challenge!! Just one note (especially for you Erin since you're captain), I won't be online a lot from May 15th-21st. My friends and I are off to Stockholm to go to the Eras Tour (I owe a life debt to the aforementioned Hunger Games first time reader, seeing how he sat in queue for hours last July to get us tickets). We made a trip out of the whole thing so I'll be quite silent for that first week of the challenge. Afterwards though I'll be online waaaayyy too much (and will be running a high risk of annoying everyone, I do love a chatty team 😂)

Robin and I are very chatty, if you can't already tell, so trust me when I say you will not annoy us!
How nice living in Paris, sounds so exotic. Will make a note of your mini vacation, that sounds very fun
Understood on Hunger Games - it's been years for me but I doubt I'd want to re-read if it was still fresh in my mind! :)
I also tend to reserve some larger page counts for this challenge. hope you get some great books in

I'm Sanskriti (feel free to call me Sanz).
I live in Mumbai, India. I am a freelance marketing consultant and even though I work from home, I have really long work days, sometimes even weekends.
But I never go to bed without reading at least a few pages. It's my form of meditation. I read everything under the sun – non-fiction, historical fiction, literary fiction, and high fantasy are some of my favorite genres. I tend to steer clear of romance, but will indulge in them once in a while.
I average about 4 books/month but there's been a drop since last year – I got married, moved apartments, changed jobs – life just got too exciting and I started going slow on my books :)
I find challenges to be a great way to push myself and I LOVE to spend time with other readers, even it's virtually. So I will be hopping into this thread at all hours of the day.
I'd be happy to join in for the re-read of the Hunger Games. I've read all the books but it's been a while and wouldn't mind living through them again.

Look forward to seeing you pop in often, good to have such a chatty team
It's very cool we have two people from India and from so many different spots in the world.

I definitely will😊
From other challenges we've been in you know I like looking at all the book covers
I know I'm silly like that🤪 one of my many idiosyncrasises! I'm liable to make some "bookcover" posts just for the fun of sharing what we are all reading! But you're used to my goofiness🤣
I'm loving we have a chatty group that likes sharing and looking at books!

YIPPPEEE!!! A new partner in crime! I'm here at all times of the day/night too!
I've had a lot of REAL LIFE stuff going on the last couple of days so I've been on GR more during the MIDGNIGHT hours of late. YEP, burning that midnight oil! Once things get settled down a little more I'll be back on a "normal" routine--if there is such a thing.
But who am I kidding--nothing is really considered "normal" for me🤣
I usually will read anything too! So we will definitely be sharing our reads! Depending on the book and the author, I look for good writing too. Sometimes I cut a lot of slack on "good writing" if it's just a fun cheesy humor read.
I'm loving that so many of us have a lot in common in regards to what we read, how we read, what we look for in books etc!!
This is going to be a lot of fun! Annoying us??? NOPE I doubt it. I love chatty team mates! And it doesn't matter if we are talking books, real life, venting, animals, shopping we love to listen and always ready to chat back--if you haven't already noticed!
I hope you have loads of fun on your trip! Relax and enjoy yourself because we will miss you and be waiting for you to return!

Hi Sanz!! Good to see you! Glad to see that all is going well for you!
UGGHHH!!! I hope your move went well. That's one chore that I always dread when it arises! But it's always nice when you get everything set back up and can enjoy it! Packing and unpacking can be tedious work!
Congratulations on the wedding! That's exciting! AND a new job--I hope that works out well for you too!!! You are having a lot of exciting things going on so no wonder your reading as slowed down!
I'm glad to see you on the team and look forward to sharing books and reading with you!

I'm Ingeborg from Norway, so I'm in the Central European timezone (GMT+2). I'm 31. I have a horse who takes up a lot of my time, and also love hiking, drawing and obviously reading. My favourite genre is fantasy, but I'll read other genres too now and then, mostly historical fiction and some "cozy" crime. I read physical books, ebooks and audiobooks.
I did read the Hunger games trilogy around ten years ago and have watched most of the movies, but not all. I'd definitely be up for a buddy reread.
I see at least one familiar name here. Robin, I think we maybe did UNO together one year? :)
Looking forward to doing the challenge with you all!

HI Ingeborg!!! Long time no see friend!!! YASSSSS!!! We played UNO together in 2023!!! Had lots of fun with you on that team!
So happy that we are on a team together again!
Glad you are doing well and look forward to reading and chatting with you in this challenge!

oh girl me too don't you worry. i split my books into two categories. first are my kindle books, which are my go-to after work or lazy sunday reads, and theyre usually cheesy romances, historical fiction, or mysteries that are about as well written as a book i myself would write. i end up finishing them in a day and then forgetting everything about them immediately, hence why theyre on kindle because free + dont take up space. then i have my physical books, ie. the "good writing" ones. i only buy a physical copy if theyre books with more substance, or if i read it on kindle and it was unexpectedly good.
unfortunately i still havent been able to get into audiobooks. im very much a visual person, and when im listening to something i zone out entirely and then 30 mins have passed and i havent heard a word... i can only actually focus on audio when im cleaning or cooking, and i reserve those times for my podcasts
