Section 2: Sergeant MandellaMandella goes back to Earth, deals with the relativity effects of him not aging as fast as those on Earth. It’s like a whole new world, compared to what he left. (Again, a soldier returning from a long stint in Vietnam must have been similar emotionally.) (view spoiler) Pretty bleak.
I finished the book. A quick read, even with the military stategy and the physics. I'd say this is primarily military SF that is more on the Hard SF side of the spectrum. The writing was good and it still felt contemporary. I'd definitely call this a classic of science fiction.
This was my second time reading this book after 12 years. It was fine, but I gave it 3 stars instead of my original 4. I'd say the last 3rd of the book is kinda boring, but I still enjoyed it. The only thing that really dates it is all the sexual orientation stuff.

I had to adjust my expectations a bit and view it as Hard SF instead to get the most out of it.
