This Day in History: The Present- The Solar Eclipse; April 8, 2024

Historic Hero- Irena Sendler was a polish maintenance worker at a ghetto during WW2. She used her job as a way to smuggle babies and children out. She saved the lives of around 2,500 children.

Historical Hiker- Elizabeth Blackwell, she was the first female doctor and paved the way for many more to follow.

This Day in History: The Past- The sinking of the RMS Lusitania on May 7, 1915

This Day in History: The Present- May 10- Solar storm that makes northern lights visible down to Alabama (Fun fact about this: It was the strongest magnetic storm since January 2005!)

Historic Hero- Amy Carmichael; she was an Irish missionary in India who rescued and helped many temple girls. She would sneak in the temple and steal them out. She ended up starting a village where she lived with all her girls and other helpers.

Historical Hiker- Jackie Robinson, first African-American MLB player.

This Day in History: The Past- The D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, during WW2

This Day in History: The Present- June 15, 2024 — the United States experienced the largest attack since WWII. It happened in the Middle East and many American ships were attacked.

Historic Hero- Winston Churchill because of his valor and willingness not to surrender to the Axis Powers when Britain was, more or less, alone in fighting them (before the U.S. entered WWII and after France had surrendered).

Historical Hiker- Rosa Parks for standing up against segregation

This Day in History: The Present- July 13th, 2024 - The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Historic Hero- Corrie Ten Boom, who hid Jews during WW2, was betrayed and caught for it, and then hosted Bible studies in the concentration camp.

Historical Hiker- Pierre and Marie Currie for their many contributions to the field of chemistry. Especially their discovery of new elements

Historic Hero– Sergeant Alvin C. York — he was a strong Christian who let his faith define his life. He's most famous for winning a battle in WWI thanks to his sharpshooting skills.

Historical Hiker– Abraham Lincoln

Historical Hiker– Amelia Earhart for being a pioneering aviator who set numerous records and became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
