What a touching story! I loved this line, “ It was in the New England days, when an unmarried woman was an old maid at twenty, at forty was everyone’s servant, and at sixty had gone through so much discipline that she could need no more in the next world”. I loved how Mehetabel( have never heard that name before) finally achieved joy in her life by her talent of making a quilt. She finally was noticed after all the years of obscurity.
I'm glad that she received recognition, but I can't believe she didn't want to see anything else at the fair! Her world was very small, but it seemed that she was happy with that particularly because it revolved around her work, which was her heart's content. I think she was brave for coming up with an original complex design and pursuing it, and wonderful that her family supported her efforts, especially because it took her five years to complete one quilt.

That's just what I thought. It seemed a bit of a waste.

Maybe it shows that she couldn't even imagine a world outside the one she had lived in her whole life.
