What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I'm trying to remember a book I read about 5 to 10 years ago. I think it was an adult novel, but it could have been YA. I'm pretty sure it was the second or third book in a multi-book series.

The setting was some sort of hero academy, like a superhero version of Hogwarts, training young people with powers to eventually become heroes. At some point in the story, a new combat teacher comes into the program, and he takes on the entire class of students at once and knocks them all down one or two at a time, like Bruce Lee taking on the entire Karate dojo in Fists of Fury.

After he's done, an observer (might have been a referee or another faculty member) says something close to "Is this a slow clap moment? Because it feels like a slow clap moment."

Sound familiar to anybody?

I've never read anything by that author, so that can't be it.

Yeah, I'm pretty surethat's probably it.
I listened to the audiobooks of that series rather than read the text, so I'll have to do some digging to confirm whether that's the title that has the scene/quote I'm looking for.

Yep, that was the title I was looking for! It's not available on Google Books, but I was able to confirm from the preview function on Amazon.
