Sivakarthik Dasari | 3 comments Absolutely. But, only part-time and only students be eligible. Important lessons in life aren't always in a book.

Alison (a1ison74) | 418 comments Definitely provided it doesn't interfere with their education. There are far too many teenagers that don't seem to understand the value of things and just expect to be given everything they want.

I worked part time from the age of 16 all the way through school and uni and as well as giving me spending money it also gave me confidence and other skills.

IShita | 1528 comments Definitely! I think it's paramount they be taught the real lessons in life and be prepared for it since the start. Keeping them sheltered, keeping them protected isn't always gonna help them, they need to face the real world out there and face them on their own. I'm a student myself and I've always insisted I be let to work. I think it's helped me learn a lot and also earn some exposure!

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 241 comments I definitely think so. In my state (CA) you can get a job at the age of 15 at the earliest, but you have to fill out forms to get a work permit, first. I didn't start working until 16, but I think jobs are good for everyone, not just adults. Plus, as a teen, it doesn't have to be just about the money...jobs also require you to stretch your comfort zone, and push you to connect with others.

Jobs are great learning opportunities, even if all one teaches you is "I NEVER want to ever do this again!!" :)

Jojobean Definately. Teens need to know the basics of life and what they will be doing once out of school. They need to learn to be somewhere on time, how to manage money and how to deal with responsibilities. Sometimes the best thing for an irresponsible teen is for them to get a job so they can learn how to be responsible.

Julia (juliace) As long as it does not interfere with their grades - teens should definitely be able to have a job.
IMO most teens today want everything handed to them - and that is part of the "everybody is a winner, there are no losers" culture that we as a society have begun to embrace. That attitude does not prepare them for the real world and IMO a teen who is exposed to a real work environment, even if it's part time, will learn what life is really like after graduation.
