I recommend the book Dune by Frank Herbert because of how interesting I found the character development. Paul goes from acting like a boy, rebelling from his parents, and following his mom around 24/7. As the book progresses, he slowly loses the things that made him a normal (rich) kid. These things break him, but he doesn't allow them to beat him. He gets back up to face each new problem, each time thinking more tactically and in-depth, (also getting more manipulative and cruel). By the end of the book, he has matured into a completely different person, who some people might call evil. This progression of Paul's character is incredibly interesting, and it makes for one of the most compelling stories I have read.
