Well made, and ambitious but also unsatisfying.A lot of good here, and I appreciate RTD seeming to try something different, but I'm unsure if it worked or if I liked it.

Yes. This felt like Doctor Who. I certainly like it a lot better than Boom.

I've seen this complaint elsewhere. Can you say what you found off?

Most of this season, the scripts felt like they wasted time with clever bits, this script is packed to the point where it felt like RTD didn't have enough room for the story he's trying to tell.
There are big gaps where it feels like we need more idea of the passage of time and/or more information.
This episode may have tried to do too much.
It sets a mood that keeps you going, but afterwards, I was just left with the vague idea that it didn't really make sense or work.
It's not bad, it's quite interesting, but I can't say Liked it, had fun or would want to rewatch it.

Fair enough. 🌈

Good to hear.
At the end, I was convinced I was just babbling.
Lori S. wrote: "Yes. This felt like Doctor Who. I certainly like it a lot better than Boom."Definitely.
Travis wrote: "… There are big gaps where it feels like we need more idea of the passage of time and/or more information...."I’ll agree to this comment, certainly. This one felt like would have worked better as a multiple episode arc. In the classic series as 4-half-hour-episodes or in New Who as a 2-episodes. But I still really enjoyed it.

That's the problem, I do like it, but I still don't know if it entirely works.
It would be so much easier if I hated it.
Then I could just go 'that sucked' and move on.
This one is stuck in my brain.
It will be interesting to see what I think about this season when I go back to rewatch it all again once it ends.
Doctor lite episode don’t always work for me. Blink obviously does. This one also works because of how subtle it is. Very atmosphere and unsettling in a lot of ways that don’t hit right away. Well done.

It would be easier if the episode just sucked.
Part of the problem I think is we never find out just what caused everyone who encountered the woman following Ruby around to run away. What did she say to them? What was the point?
There are other questions left unanswered in this story, like: Who is Jack? What did that woman have over him that made him run away?
I think this is why we're left with that unsettling sense of incompleteness about this story, thus are left unsatisfied with its ending.

Yeah, too many hand-waving moments.
Plus, Ruby's 'aging' look had my wife going 'Oh yeah, she's forty!
I guess I just don’t need everything tied up in a bow. When there’s magic involved you don’t always get answers. That’s what religion is all about.

I know and that's why it's an irritant right under the skin. I want to like this episode so much. I love the idea of the Fairyring and the Doctor being taken out of the picture. For the most part it works. I just want to know what's what, y'know?
*this is actually the first episode to be filmed so Gatwa could finish working on a previous project, thus the Doctor-lite story.

Rick wrote: "I guess I just don’t need everything tied up in a bow. When there’s magic involved you don’t always get answers. That’s what religion is all about."As an atheist, I tend to get irrupted when the answer is 'mysterious ways...yiou need to believe...!'
As a writer, I like it even less.
I don't need everything tied up with a bow, but I'm having my doubts RTD actually even has a bow, in case he stumbles across something that needs some tying up.
Rick wrote: "Gripe all you want. I loved it."That's fine.
As a 'Last Jedi' fan, I can appreciate that statement.
Rick wrote: "Last Jedi was the only good one in the final trilogy."Force Awakens is a fun romp
Last Jedi is excellent
Rise of Skywalker is a mess. Nice to see Lando again, but the rest never gets its act together.
Force Awakens is uninspired, soulless mashup of scenes or sequences stolen from other Star Wars films that are loosely strung together by an inept writer and a director that seriously needs to stick to producing and ONLY producing films. The less said about Rise of Skywalker the better. It is just insulting to watch.
Rewatched about a week or so ago. I really like this one, even if it’s a Doctor lite one. I love the way the natives in the pub screw around with Ruby. It’s hilarious and terrifying in turns.

This one is delightful. Creepy. Unsettling. Subtle. Very subtle. But I think this one could have a rather long reaching, long enduring life among the fans.
