Challenge complete!Key Word: World & Quiet
Incidentally, my pick matched both challenges, key word as well as motif - The World That We Knew by Alice Hoffman. It was a good read, even though it also dragged a little in parts.
As a bonus, I just started Keep Her Quiet by Emma Curtis and I should be able to finish it this month as well.
I read A Sweet Sting of Salt by Rose Sutherland. It was a different story - a historical romance fantasy.
Challenge complete!Key Words: Quiet and World
Read At the Quiet Edge by Victoria Helen Stone and Joy to the World: A Regency Christmas Collection by Carolyn Miller, Amanda Barratt, and Erica Vetsch.
Challenge Complete: SEP– Twice, World, Man, Quiet, Sweet, Hold, Shallow, InvisibleThe Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark by Carl Sagan
It’s rather disturbing when a book written in 1996 is discussing problems that are very much problems today. Inadequate education for many, the denigration of science and the rise of pseudoscience, the lack of critical thinking, are things we’ve been grappling with for over thirty years and seem to be no closer to a solution.
In this book Sagan describes in detail the root of many of those problems, and, perhaps, a way to deal with them. But time has shown that we haven’t dealt with them, and so the tragedy within its writing is plain to see. Indeed, it seems to have gotten worse.
There is a great deal to digest in this book, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. But it’s well worth reading. Sagan had a lot to say, and was the best at making what he had to say understandable.
I wish he would have lived longer. I wish we would have listened to him.
Just finished HOLDing up the universe by Jennifer Niven and started News of the WORLD by Paulette Jiles as audiobooks.audio books. also read a MAN Called Ove (and then warltched the movie A MAN called Otto) and am reading SWEET Revenge by Diane Mott Davidson. Had a Jill Shalvis book set aside for PARADISE but my daughter struggled to through it and said not to bother with it. This just hasn't been a great list for me and too busy a month to really dig for them.
Keyword: Shallow The book I read was Shallow Graves by Patrick Logan. It was a quick read, and I figured out the surprise pretty quickly, but still liked the book.
• Agnes At the End of the World - Kelly McWilliamshttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
*SPOILER*
I tend to really enjoy apocalyptic/dystopian fiction, but I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get through this book, given the religious content, and my own personal religious trauma. I’m glad I gave it a chance though, because it was actually very good. I was invested enough in the 1st main character (the story is told through 2 viewpoints), that I was getting mad towards the end when it seemed that she may have died. And honestly, if she had, I would have bumped a star off of my rating, and given the book away.
I read these 3 books: Twice A Daughter by Julie Ryan McGue, The Man Burned By Winter by Peter Zacharias, and The Sweet Taste of Murder by CeeCee James . Twice A Daughter was pretty good, Memoirs aren't my favorite, but I enjoyed this. The main character did annoy me occasionally with her expectations, but it was interesting.
I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series by Peter Zacharias and the last book was eh ok. I don't need to read any others in the series, just not my speed.
Don't know why it took me so long to finally read it but wow I loved it.The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab
My goal is two keywords every month, but I only got to one this month!Keyword: World
Benjamin Forrest and the School at the End of the World
This really wasn't my favorite, it was kind of all over the place and resolved/answered practically nothing, but it was fun.
Key word: ManBook read: The Alibi Man by Tami Hoag
Was a quick read, had to interrupt it to read a very long book-club book, but was easy to pick back up. A wild ride, with a glimpse into the lives (and sliminess) of the rich.

Key Word:Man
Book:
The Vanishing Man by Alma Katsu
Thoughts:
Although it’s a short three book Amazon series, this first book has me hooked. I’ve had my eye on this action/thriller/spy series for a while now, and I’m glad I finally got around to reading it. I can’t wait to read the next books! 4 stars!
I’m a little late to post but the book I read for September was The Truths We Hold by Kamala Harris. I thought it was well written; however, I don’t really enjoy memoirs a whole lot. I’m glad I branched out a little out of my comfort zone.
