At least I don't feel like I'm missing out... honestly the blurb didn't sound very enticing either, for the most part...

This was so bad, I finally bumped it up to 2.5 speed which is about the fastest I can listen and is only reserved for audios that i just want to be over. Finished FINALLY (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 21829 comments Started. Through Part 1 and it's reminding me in parts of Rolling in the Deep and in part of the Casey Affleck movie that was up for Oscars several years ago--Manchester by the Sea...

Nirkatze | 21829 comments Finished, and while I don't ragehate like Ann-Marie, I have issues with the same things. I did like the language and the conversation on grief... but the whole middle chunk seemed out of synch with the rest of the book and I feel like I'm putting 2 and 2 together and.... still getting 2. Closest thing I can think of is A Study in Scarlet, which was half a parable... but it had a point in the end. I don't get the point of the whole 70% chunk in the middle. I enjoyed the opening and ending, except for (view spoiler)

Don't forget the (view spoiler) So gross.....But yeah, that middle 2/3 was just boring, and unnecessarily long which tried my patience so I had no patience left for the ick in the last section lol

Felina | 2416 comments Wow, this is a 5 star favorite for me. To each his own, I never thought it was boring and I thought the writing was beautiful.

Ann-Marie | 5648 comments I wish I liked it, I was very much looking forward to it and yeah, this was not for me.

I had wanted to ask what aspects of the story drew the people who love it--cuz I know there are several folks in the group! I wasn't exactly bored during the middle, more... lost? And I kept asking myself why... I couldn't figure out why the story needed such an extended flashback. If y'all have any insight I'd love to hear! I did find the writing beautiful, but mostly for Part 1--after that the language ceased to gain my attention.
