Ta Donna. oh, but what a shame I don't have any of those devices or apps. I can try to see if it will work on the physical books but seems such a faff on I might do better to wait til someone else picks the book :)
aaaaah i found it on the ibooks app! You open the ibook, then once it is open you go the magnifying glass and type in the word you are looking for. Brill, many thanks!
