Diana (dianammontes) | 6 comments Hi guys! As a writer I used to just sit down and write but I now do a rough outline. What do you guys do to keep track of your writing? I'm working on a series so I keep a journal which I call a novel notebook. In my novel notebook I put in anything that has to do with my series whether it's character profiles, setting information, rough outlines, or research, etc.

Do any of you do this? If so tell me how you keep it organized or tell me how you outline of you outline :)

Alicia (firefox9799) | 40 comments I write story ideas wherever I can so I don't forget them. I only write short stories so I don't usually use an outline- I just start writing and see where it takes me. I'll then go back and add some things like characterization and setting details to clear things up. But usually I focus more on dialogue.

I do the same. A rough outline, then build on from there. And to keep track of characters, siblings, personalities, looks, etc., I have a document for each story, but I think I might do the same and make a novel notebook! It's a novel idea! *wink wink* WOW, that was a bad pun.

Anywas, this is how I organize it:

Story: The Gap.

Characters:

Athena Donovan--14 years old, brown hair, huge gray eyes, small nose, regular mouth. Siblings: Janet Donovan.

Other character: age, hair color, eye description, nose description, mouth description, siblings: none/1, 2, etc.

Then, I do the siblings and describe them. After siblings, parents, teachers, and any other characters I think I'll need. I add characters every once in awhile.

So that's it! :)
