My library is currently being ransomwared, so not sure when I'll get this, but looking forward to it.

Cheryl | 1172 comments Oh, too bad! What could the hackers possibly want from the library? Money? Don't they realize how little funding libraries get? Just plain dumb.

I am also having a library challenge to get the book. There is only one copy of this book in my entire state, and it's currently checked out. So I'm not sure when I will get this book, either.

Kelly | 199 comments ebooks/audiobooks for the win! I'm quite enjoying this one. very Agatha Christie like. and I always enjoyed a good Christie novel. I actually have the first book of this series. I'll need to read that lol

That's great, Kelly! I'm still waiting on mine.

Kelly | 199 comments ☹️ I hope it arrives soon! I should visit my library more often, but I hate giving the books back lol

Cheryl | 1172 comments Just curious: how did this particular book by this author happen to be nominated? I know Marsh wrote alot of books to choose from.

I looked at the ratings and then looked to see which ones were available in the Seattle, Portland, and whatever-your-library-is-called-I-can-never-remember libraries. The story just seemed interesting and we haven't read any by her yet.

Cheryl | 1172 comments I can't wait to read this book. I've heard alot of good things about Ngaio Marsh and have wanted to try one of her books for awhile. If my book doesn't come in after a few more days I might just read it on Internet Archive. You can't download it and you have to read it online, but they do have it there. I took a peek at it there, and the plot sounds interesting.

P.S.
My library system is called Pines. (Just think of Georgia pines to remember.)

Kelly | 199 comments I looked her up. She's from New Zealand, was a Dame (knighted) and is considered one of the Queens of Mystery of the 1920's and 30's, along with Agatha Christie. I'm about 54% through it and am enjoying it a lot. I think I like her better than Christie, tbh. I always found Christie's writing a bit, well, prissy. Marsh's seems a lot more 'real'. Very good choice!

I would like to recommend the Miss Silver books by Patricia Wentworth. My husband and I both really like them. They are all very well written and Miss Silver is often a peripheral character, so each book feels very different.

Cheryl | 1172 comments Well, I got tired of waiting for the book to come in and am reading it at Internet Archive now. It's not my preferred way of reading, but it'll do.

Kelly,

What do you think of the host of this gathering, Jonathan? Do you like him, hate him, or just kind of intrigued by his plan for the group? I must say I don't like him, but I'm also a bit intrigued. I don't think he's evil in his plan (at least, as far as I've read). I see him as a bored rich man who doesn't see the consequences of his actions. Any thoughts?

Kelly | 199 comments Bingo! Got my thoughts on him on the first try. Didn't like him from the start

My library just got OverDrive back! Book has been checked out!

Cheryl | 1172 comments Adelaide wrote: "My library just got OverDrive back! Book has been checked out!"

Checked out by you or by someone else? I wonder if some streaming platform is making a movie/short series based on this book. For something that old, it seems to be suddenly popular. The one at my library system is STILL checked out.
