Fairy Tale Fairy Tale question

Stephen King

I just finished Fairytale over the weekend. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't consider it typical Stephen King. It's not horror, just a little more intense than Hunger Games or something similar. I love Stephen King and if I were going to make a recommendation, I would start with his earlier works...the classic King books...like Christine, Carrie, etc.

How about starting with a novella? One good choice might be "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," the basis for the movie The Shawshank Redemption. A sort of "horror lite" that I really liked from him was Joyland (which I'm about to re-read). A true classic is 'Salem's Lot, which is horror (vampires), but slow build and very old-school (a bit out of date but still great - I re-read that one a few years back). One of my favorites is The Dead Zone, more of a gripping thriller than horror (but also a bit out of date now).

I could go on and on...post again if you need additional ideas!

That is tricky, as he is a prolific writer of fantasy, and horror, delivering great novels and short stories/novellas across YA and Adult audiences. It's even harder when you think his earlier novels are generally considered to be his best

Salem's Lot is a vampire novella
The Dead Zone is a sci-fi thriller novel
Cell is an apocalyptic horror - I found it an easy, enjoyable read, with enough suspense to keep me occupied, but not really horrifying
The Shining and Doctor Sleep are most definitely worthy investments if you're willing and able to commit
And, of course, Christine and Carrie are both the essence of SK

There are aspects of all the traditional classic fairytale weaved throughout the story. Its one of my favorite books I have read it multiple times.

Not a horror story at all! Just a really epic fantasy tale!
