I started it last night! I might be a little slow finishing it though, because I am in the middle of too many books! 🤪 I think it will be a great read, for sure!

That's pretty much the same for me! lol! Though A Light on the Hill has been on my TBR list for a couple of years now, so I'm pretty excited to finally get to read it!

Awesome! Cleaning up my TBR on my physical bookshelf is my biggest goal for this year! It makes you busy, though!
Enjoy your reading!

Hey y'all! I decided to change it to just one discussion thread for the BOTM. If y'all want to talk about anything that is spoilerish, please put it in the spoiler tag things or at least give us a warning.

I'm at chapter 6. If anyone else has gotten close to here yet, what do y'all think of Darek?

What do y'all think about A Light on the Hill so far?

I'll probably finish this book tomorrow.

I finished it a few days ago- what a story! Very gripping. I loved how the story of Christ’s redeeming love revealed itself in Moriyah’s story, even though she lived before Christ came to earth.

I forgot to post these sooner, but here are my update while reading this book. There are a few spoilers, so any of y'all who haven't read the book might want to be careful...

June 5, 2024 – page 4
1.24% "Poor Moriyah. I can't imagine going through something like that... I bet the hot iron hurt more than I'd ever like to know..."

June 5, 2024 –
5.0% "I really like Cumin, I use it in a few different dishes that I make. I do wish I could try the soup Moriyah made, though."

June 7, 2024 –
18.0% "Darek seems nice! I really like him so far!

(Spoiler)

I found it interesting how Moriyah got to meet her future husband at the festival.

I also liked the fact that even though Rimona had been very mean to her, Moriyah still reached out and helped her after she got burned."

June 7, 2024 –
18.0% "WAIT, WHAT!?!?!

(Spoiler)

You mean that Moriyah isn't supposed to get married to Darek?! Instead, she's supposed to marry his older brother?!?"

June 8, 2024 –
27.0% "Wow... that escalated quickly...

I was so proud of Moriyah for sticking up for Eitan like she did to those two boys who were supposed to be her future step-sons, but um... that poison situation was quite something... I absolutely wasn't expecting it! And um... I'm going to get back to the book now before something even more drastic happens to Moriyah without me being there, so..."

June 9, 2024 –
33.0% "*sits here in shock* Well, I wasn't expecting him to show up again, but now I'm not too sure how much I like Darek anymore. I understand his reasoning, but still... though it may be more that I don't trust him anymore. But poor Moriyah! (Spoiler) Now she has to travel to safety with the guy she likes, when he's angry that she accidentally killed his nephews...

This book certainly has me at the edge of my seat!"

June 10, 2024 –
36.0% "This book just keeps getting more and more interesting!"

June 15, 2024 –
53.0% "I don't want to be mad at Darek anymore! 😭 Like, it's so obvious that they care for each other, but at this moment, there isn't much hope for them because Moriyah will either be killed or have to live in Kedesh for rest of her life, and if she does survive, would Darek truly want to stay with her and marry the person who killed his nephews?"

June 17, 2024 –
59.0% "It's official: Darek is going onto my list of Favorite Fiction Men! Like, he's amazing and cares sooooooo much about Moriyah. How did I ever doubt him?"

June 17, 2024 –
69.0% "Oops... I meant to put 69%..."

June 17, 2024 –
69.0% "Like, seriously, this part (in Chapter 29) between Moriyah and Darek in the river that he had described to her in the vineyard is so sweet, and I'm barely able to hide my smile because of how romantic it is!

Also, I just realized that for the books I've been reading on Libby, I should have been putting what chapter I'm on in my updates because the percentages and page numbers aren't the same as a physical book's.

The only thing I am not sure about- and forgive me if this is a lack of attention on my part (I’ve read too many books since then and now I’m confused 🤪)- when does the title come from? Why am I not remembering a scene in the book with a light on a hill?

message 19: by Jasmine (Jazzie), Head MOD (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jasmine (Jazzie) | 389 comments Mod
I don't remember a scene with a light on a hill either, or even a sentence that mentioned it.

You're welcome! lol. Yep, I agree! it was a very good read!

Ok- glad I am not crazy there!

I'm not sure why I didn't even think about the title sooner. Usually, I think it's so neat when I find how the title is connected to the book somewhere in it. Most of the books I've read have their titles connected to them in some way, and even with the books I'm writing, I'm trying to come up with titles that fit in with the story. So it's a bit odd that this book is harder to figure out why it's named what it is, unless we both somehow missed something, but I wouldn't think so.

Yes! Agreed- I am an avid writer as well, and so I read through that lens, always trying to piece out the author’s methods and steps to building a story. Uncovering the meaning behind all the symbolism is my favorite part, and the title always feels like the biggest, most meaningful symbol of all, so when I read that book I was like, “hmmm…”🤔
