It always makes me think of a beautiful cake for some reason, and I don't even really eat cake or sweets much.

When a character tells you that "hope is a liability" in a book like this uff, love that. I'm doing the audiobook, the narrator, Xe Sands, is incredible.

What do you think of Daphne?

I'm only on chapter 4 / out of 39, waiting for Jules to fall asleep but ugh, charming woman X D

I like how the story assigns memories to parts of the house, walking on the stairs, the crickety 4th step, the way the carpet feels uner the feet, that's such a great anchor and so well done.

Despite the thoughts of the past, it's easy to see that Vera loves this house, (view spoiler)

Just 5 chapters in, but I am really enjoying her writing style. It’s rather poetic and so descriptive.
It's the one book I'm having a hard time speeding up my audiobook, usually I do min of 1.5 or even 2 when really getting it, this one I'm a 1, speeding ain't cool, it's too good so takes me longer.

I'm enjoying the writing in it. I could see how you'd miss something speeding up the audio.

How far is everyone? I don't want to say anything until I know others are there. (Obviously I can use the spoiler tag, but I'm not sure what ballpark we're in).
Example, I can go days where no reading is done (Kid 3...), and other days read for a couple hours or more at night (If I don't fall asleep putting him to bed). Sporadic lately.

I’m woefully behind, about a quarter in. I should have plentiful reading time this week. I’m really enjoying it, just needed to wrap up a couple of other reads.
I had a knee replacement, so I'm still in the first week of agonizing about not being able to do/read anything, and "why can I not magically walk already?" Seriously, how did I not know my adult kids were "incapable" of running a vacuum, and under the impression that the house and food magically cleaned and cooked itself?

Same, I did just listen to 35 minutes of the audiobook so chipping away, I'm behind on every group/buddy read so hope to get as much read as I can today, its just hard with a toddler around he tens to get loud and crazy for attention when he sees I'm concentrating on anything but him lol.

You're so used to doing everything like a super hero it's tough to rest , I think most partners think some Harry Potter magic is going on cleaning and cooking while they are doing other things, no it's most likely the mom! Hope you're doing better Kimberly, I thought that at least you get to read a lot, it's probably hard when you're healing. Sending you big hugs!

There are some great lines in here, like Daphne banging her pots and pans to fill the house with the sound of her displeasure, so evocative!
I got to catch up today, I'm about to hit the 50% mark in my audiobook and whoaaaa, talk about perspectives shifting. I am loving this twisted story.

That's about where I am--then stopped from pain/anxiety/frustration!! I absolutely LOVE this new vibe!!!! I hope to settle and get in even a few chapters a day. (It was brought to my attention by kid 1, that the only time I'm NOT "doing something" is when I'm reading and ignoring everyone.) LOL!

I am obsessed with this book suddenly, can't wait to put my kid to bed so I can squeeze in one more chapter even after spending a day with it. And I have 3 other books I'm buddy/group reading so doing a shuffle tonight for sure.
And reading is doing something haha, kids get excused for that mistake, full grown adults interrupting no lol.

Lisa, Once you hit a certain point, you won't want to stop (unless "adulting" gets in the way...)
Kasia, Kid 1 is "technically" an adult, and got a glare in return. LOL!

I picked this up last night, and couldn't put it back down! Last third was just.... WOW. I'll be watching for more from this author!!! I won't post an actual review yet, because I want to discuss with this group first!!!! Let me know any comments/questions wherever you're at, because I'm excited to talk about it!!
Nice Kimberly!! I hope to maybe finish today, I'm half way into Chapter 28 / out of 39 in my audio but the next few chapters are not very long so fingers crossed.
I will tell you what movie when I finish :)

Starting Ch. 14. I love the writing here, and my heart goes out to Vera. I think I would have not gone home to help Daphne if I were her. Some of this is just hard to read; this poor girl. Also, I’m having a hard time with the name Daphne being associated with villainry, as it’s my dog’s name lol.

I have a book listed that I've been "currently reading" for a couple years now--technically in a group. I won't take it off because I still have it downstairs with me, and "could" pick it up any time. LOL! (It was the 11th or 12th set in the ShadowHunter's world that I had read in a row, and I just tired out mid book).

Omg I love this, I started Shadowhunters last year but was so slow I took it off, I should just do your thing, I love that, I do have books on my list that I'm still reading 2-3 years in lol, refuse to remove the stats cause I'm technically reading it so...

Yes! I started with a group of people on Instagram, and got up to 11 or 12 (Lady Midnight). One of the other members had read the series MANY times, and gave us the "preferred" reading order. By June or July, I was up to that one.... technically I'm still reading it! LOL!
I think by then, I just needed more variety, and more horror for a change.

I'm glad to see that you all seem to have enjoyed this read! I haven't had time to read this one again (life has been busy and I've been out of town often too). I'm drawing a mental blank on the ending. Kasia you described the feelings I remember having so well with the "warm hug". I gave it a 4-star so maybe I did so because of something with the ending? I dunno haha
