Kirsten (kmcripn) I stumbled across this blog posting: 8 Creepy Books to Terrify You"

http://www.the-line-up.com/media/8-cr...

Imagine my surprise when I opened it up and these were the books:
Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
The Shirley Jackson Collection
Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi
Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis
Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker
Night Film by Marisha Pessl
Dare Me by Megan Abbott
The Shining by Stephen King

Now, admittedly, I've only read one of these. But still...

So, what books scare you the most? The scariest books I've ever read were Ghost Story by Peter Straub and The Ruins by Scott Smith

I've read some of your list, and you are right; they are scary.

Betty (bettylouise54) | 123 comments Not sure why I don't read certain authors. I guess they are both suspense and thrillers mixes together. The violence too graphic. Some I don't read are Steven King,
Anne Rule and there are some excellent religious books out there that I have difficulty reading. One is Judus the Apostle.

Skye | 307 comments Betty, why don't you read Stephen King: some of my all time faves were by King.

Betty (bettylouise54) | 123 comments I try one book a long time ago. I didn't very far with it. I have read lately that his books are bad but as my TBR pile is high I probably won't get around to trying again.

Skye | 307 comments I like his earlier novels: Salem's Lot, The Shining, The Dead Zone, Bag of Bones. I truly believe King's novels revolve around the theme of the 'underdog.'

Cujo and Misery by Stephen King. I stopped reading books by Stephen King after Misery.

Temple (temple62) | 60 comments Helter skelter was pretty scary. Red Dragon and silence of the Lambs terrified me.

One of his other themes is "coming of age". My favorites of his are The Stand, Revival, and Joyland.

Betty - if you don't like his horror, try Joyland. It's a mystery done in the noir style.

Ron - I stopped reading Stephen King after Tommyknockers but then I read Joyland for a book club read and loved it. Revival is terrific!

Betty (bettylouise54) | 123 comments I will put J O YLAND ON by TBR pile.

Doseofbella (goodreadscomdoseofbella) | 5 comments Helter Skelter and the Exorcist terrified me. It has been 30 years, and I still can't get through them.

Maggie | 21 comments AsI said before I don't scare easily - but I had to throw The Exorcist away after reading it, it was scary.

The Woman in Black had my heart thumping!

Marian Im not sure if any books out there really terrify me,but if I had to choose,I would say anything in the true crime genre. Now those, can be a little nerve racking to read,

message 21: by Skye (new)

Skye | 307 comments You make a good point, and I have read a few. In the Deep Woods, the story is based upon the murder of eight student nurses; the film is great, too.
