I Had Forgotten

I had forgotten the heart could sing,
When love was found.

I had forgotten the soul could scream,
Even when all was quiet.

I had forgotten eyes could speak,
When our lips could not.

I had forgotten lips could lie,
Even when the heart protested.

I had forgotten tears could mediate,
When our prayers didn’t reach our lips.

I had forgotten the mind could weave truth and desperation, falsehood and doubt,
When we were promised sound ones.

I had forgotten the ears could hear notes of doubt and denial,
When the truth was stark mere seconds ago.

I had forgotten teeth could smile,
Even with blood pooling in our mouths.

I had forgotten fingers could reach for the truth, for a future,
Even when hands were broken.

I had forgotten our spirits could glow,
Even when we, the coals, were crushed.

I had forgotten love existed in this dark world,
But surely it was found when I found you.

Oh my gosh that is so beautiful Taz. It fills my eyes with tears, in a good way. I needed to read that today <3

This is just my response to a little writing prompt one of my friends posted yesterday. The prompt was about how you would end a story where the villain destroyed the world.

Villian's POV:

And maybe I felt a hint of regret, maybe I felt nothing at all, as I stood there and watched it burn.

Hero's POV:

I tried to struggle to my feet, but I knew it was too late. I glanced up at him, standing there. He seemed to be looking at me. I grabbed the pillar beside me, and pulled myself upward, I would die on my feet. And as he watched, as the world melted away and me with it, I could only wonder if this was really it. If he had really won. But he hadn't, because I was still standing. And as long as I died in defiance, I still died in victory. And he couldn't take that away.

I kind of want to work that last one especially into a story at some point. Don't know if I ever will tho.

Maybe I'll post something from my WIP on here another time, but idk. I feel like my WIP isn't as well written as that one paragraph tho lol.

Here's a poem I wrote a few years ago about the Crucifixion. It's written from the POV of the Centurian, hence the title.

The Centurian

I am not who I used to be
How shall I tell?
The story of how this change came about?
The story is an odd one,
You may not believe
But tonight, I'll try to tell it,
So, listen to me please.

It all started one day
During Passover, I believe
In this city of Jerusalem, where I was stationed,
So, you see,
It was a day when the Jews zealous were
Who'd anticipate they'd come to Pilot,
An enemy, in every sense of the word?

They brought for him to try
A Man of their own
But whether He was truly a man, I don't know.
Strange as I'm sure it sounds,
You will understand
Fantastic things are happening,
In this foreign land.

This man they brought before the prefect
Seemed to deserve no punishment
Perhaps such things are left to fate
But the crowd shouted it
The decree for Him to die
Who they say claimed to be their king
In all my days,
I've never seen such a thing.

Pilot believed Him
I could see it in his eyes.
He tried to persuade them
They would not listen to what was wise.
They shouted all the louder,
For Him to be crucified.
He washed his hands and gave Him up
Somehow it felt not right.

We led Him up Calvery
He could not carry His cross.
Between two thieves He hung,
Then I felt that all was lost.
For darkness covered the Earth
The rocks apart were rent.
Then - No! I cannot say He died.
Surely, this Man went.

Now they say that He has risen.
Risen from the dead.
And I must confess that I believe them
Though you may think me mad.
The moment He was gone
I knew He was no mere man.
And once you have seen Him
You never can forget.

About the poem, I don't usually write poetry. I did a couple of poems for a book I was writing when I was 16, since one of the characters was a poet, and then I decided I wanted to write The Centurion, but that's about it lol. Oh, except for a pretty bad one I did for school. Why is it always so much harder to write things for school?

Yeah, the villain's one just popped in my head almost immediately (I had actually thought of a similar sentence before in all my brainstorming, and then I decided to write the hero's too.)
