Challenge: Chinese Medicine Elements

Since we are doing a Reverse Readathon to make a bow to readers in the Eastern Hemisphere, it might be a good idea to make a cultural bow to some readers who live in the Eastern Hemisphere. Yes, Western Hemisphere folk are also familiar with a similar elemental list. So this should work well for many of us.

The Elements.
Wood
Fire
Earth
Metal
Water
Spirit

The Read.
This is your reading challenge. Use these elements to develop your own reading list, perhaps reading about science, science fiction, technology, natural resources, myths, or fantasy about these elements. Or maybe you want to read books with titles that include an element or more in a title.

This elemental list is just a jumping off point. Enjoy.

I added a channel in our discord for this challenge as well, and included the optional 6th element- Spirit. When you look at your face in an ancient Chinese mirror depicting the 5 elements around its rim, you yourself make up that 6th element. :)

I picked Afterlife, by Julia Alvarez, as my book for Wood, since it has a tree on the cover.

I'm so glad Erin and Lamilla that you too are enjoying this challenge! I think others are enjoying at other Dewey sites.

I have so far completed two with two more planned.

for Wood: If Trees Could Talk: Life Lessons from the Wisdom of the Woods by Holly Worton. What made thos not too wierd for me is that I have twice read The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate: Discoveries from a Secret World. Trees provide source materials for our wood products. 5⭐

for Water. The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Pearls come from oysters of seas and kther bodies of water. Somewhat edenic. Somewhat a parable. 4⭐
