Book Club+ MPC discussion

Hi everyone,

If you are joining us for our book club selection "Mercury" by Amy Jo Burns, we are now at Chapter 7. This story is building and we are finding out so much about the complicated Joseph family. Marley has entered their lives and nothing is going to be the same. While she thought she liked one Joseph brother, she is falling in love with another brother. Their difficult dad and protective mother are not going to make it easy for Marley. A history of family troubles and now a body found at the church. Will life get any easier for them all? We are now at Chapter 7.

Chapter 7
Marley had spent the night with Waylon. She couldn't risk getting caught there and had to leave. She reached home and her mother was awake. She asked Ruth if she liked living in Mercury. Ruth told her she had been making friends. She asked Marley to join a club and not spend so much time with the Joseph family. Marley was trying to make friends at school, with a girl named Jade. Marley joined Jade's club "Future Business Leaders of America." Jade explained to Marley she wanted to make money and not be dependent on anyone. She has watched her mother not get paid for all her hard work raising the children. Marley offered to be Jade's first investor. Jade was attending cosmetology school.

Marley ran into Waylon at school. He asked her to come to dinner. She told him, for fear of Baylor. They both agreed they did not regret being together. Waylon wanted to tell the famly the truth about them. Waylon was afraid of disappointing his family. He wasn't the best roofer and his family never let him forget it. That was how they kept him in the family business. They held that against him. Marley didn't want him to be the person who broke up the family.

Marley went home and skipped school for the next few days. Jade wondered Marley had missed club meetings. Marley told her she would be better off without being around her. Jade didn't understand and was angry. Ruth asked Marley if she was sick and asked the last time she had her menstral cycle. Marley had taken a pregnancy test. She was pregnant.

Marley and Waylon were secretly seeing each other. Marley was afraid to tell the Joseph family. Should Marley tell them the truth? What response do you think she will get from Mick? Elise? Baylor?Jade is her new friend and now she has suddenly distanced herself from being in Jade's new club. Marley feels that whatever she touches, she destroys. Should she have more faith in Jade's friendship? Ruth has questioned whether Marley is sick. Marley is preganant. What does this mean for Waylon and Marley? The Joseph family? This news could break the family. Waylon and Baylor? Should Marley tell them all quickly?

Your thoughts? Marley has alot on her mind. How can she handle this by herself? The Joseph family....I fear for what they will do...What will they do to Waylon? Marley?
