Pinball - MMC - July 2024
Mod
- Each team member reads books and posts a link to their review/updates on the team review thread.
- Each team member receives points for buddy/pages/bonus as normal.
- Each team will then receive bonus points for playing pinball.
- The number of books read since the last time scores were done, will be multiplied by the bonus number hit on the pinball board (as determined by random.org.)
* Possible Pinball numbers are as follows -
1) +5 points
2) +3 points
3) +2 points
4) +10 points
5) +10 points
6) +10 points
7) +10 points
8) +10 points
9) +10 points
10) +10 points
11) +40 points
12) +40 points
13) +40 points
14) +70 points
15) +100 points
16) +50 points
17) +3 points

--Please note that a new pinball bonus value will be drawn every 5 balls(/books), or each time scores are done, whichever comes first. So if 7 books are posted, the team will receive bonus points for the first 5 books based on one bonus value, and then the next two books on another bonus value.
Example:
- If three books have been read since scores were last done, and random.org draws 31) +20 points, then bonus points would be 3*20 points=60 points
- If three books have been read since scores were last done, and random.org draws 35) +5 points, then bonus points would be 3*5 points=15 points
-If two books have been read since scores were last done, and random.org draws 14) +70 points, then bonus points would be 2*70 points=140 points
-If eight books have been read since scores were last done, and random.org draws 18) +5 points, and then 20) +30 points, then bonus points would be (5*5 points) + (3*30 points) = 115 points.

- The Short Version -Points:
* Points will only be given for pages read in July.
Types of Books + Page Counts + Points:
* The minimum page counts for points are:
~ Adult/YA without illustrations = 50 pages
~ Middle-grade/children's books without illustrations = 75 pages
~ Manga, graphic novels, plays, poetry, and books written in verse = 150 pages
* Books may be added together to reach these minimums, as long as all books are under the minimum.
Reviews:
* A review or 4 detailed updates will be required for each book read.
* One book per comment on the review thread (unless adding books together).
* Maximum of 10 reviews per person in a day.
Re-Reads / Starting Again:
* Re-reads are allowed in this challenge.
Buddy Reads:
* Buddy reads must take place within this group to gain buddy read points.
* You must make at least 4 comments, including a reply to a buddy if possible.
* You may start up to 7 days before the start date, and 14 days after.
* GBRs also count.
Start Times:
* This challenge will begin and end on Goodreads time (PST) - 00:01 on July 1st 2024 PST, to 00:01 on August 1st 2024 PST.

★ Buddy reads MATCH your points score for pages, so a 300-page book (6pts) + buddy read (6pts) = 12 points.

(Bonus points for buddy reads will only be given if the buddy read has taken place in this group.)
★ If books are long enough to count on their own (50/75/150 pages) they will be scored on their own.
If you read two novellas of 80 pages each, you will receive a 1 in the books read column as together they are over 100 pages, and 1 page point for each (2 points total), as each book is individually long enough to earn points. This applies to all types of points.
* Individual bonus points will be awarded based on page count, the same as page points and buddy read points. So if you read a 300 page book that also completes a description, you will receive 6 page points and 6 bonus points ☺
Hermione bonus points can be earned on books over 600 pages long, because Hermione loves a big book, and we love Hermione ❤️
Over 600 pages unillustrated book = 12 points
Over 600 pages unillustrated childrens/middle-grade book = 8 points
Over 600 pages illustrated/poetry etc. = 4 points
Team bonus points will be awarded based on which value is hit on the pinball board (as determined by Random.org)

* Please note - we will be tracking how many books you have read, but you will not receive points for this column. You will receive a '1' for each book posted which reaches the minimum page count for that type of book

This challenge will be a team challenge. We will have a small number of teams, with a mixture of readers in each. When signing up please let us know whether you would like to be on a team, or whether you would like to go solo ☺
Teams should be posted by late June. If you sign up after teams are posted, we will try to add you to a team, but we may not always be able to. You may be asked to join a waiting list. Please sign up as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Q: I have already posted my book but i am now buddy reading it. Should i edit the original post and make a comment that i did or just make a new comment stating i buddy read it?
A: make a new post, don't edit the original one. Tell us which post you originally posted in, and then leave us the link to the buddy read and we'll add your points ☺

This will be a team reading challenge which will run from July 1st 2024, to July 31st 2024 inclusively. Results will be announced on August 1st/2nd 2024.
To complete this challenge, participants will be split into teams. Each team will read books of their own choice (which fit the challenge guidelines), and points will be awarded based on the length of the book, and whether you have buddy-read your book.
You may also choose to take on Pinball as a solo participant, you just won't be able to earn team bonus points.
* All points earned in this challenge will go towards your total points for the 2024 MMC.
* You may also choose to take part in this challenge, without taking part in any of the other challenges happening this July at YA Buddy Readers' Corner ♥
