Which do you prefer?"Due to the presence of the complex and disturbing Frederick II Staufer I recommend reading the novel "The Joyful Beggar: A Novel of St. Francis of Assisi" before reading this one so that people know what has happened before with this character.
"The Quiet Light: A Novel About Thomas Aquinas" is one of my favorite novels by Louis de Wohl. Other very good ones are "The Spear", "The Spear", "Citadel of God: A Novel about Saint Benedict", "The Golden Thread: A Novel about St. Ignatius Loyola" or "The Glorious Folly: A Novel of the Days of St. Paul". In my opinion, Louis de Wohl is a writer who should be analyzed for all his work as a whole. Since without exaggeration he has created a narrative cycle that could compete withHonoré de Balzac's Human Comedy. I try to novelize the history of the most important saints of the Catholic Church and I do it wonderfully. For me he is one of the great writers and only Mika Waltari, Henryk Sienkiewicz, or László Passuth could compete with Louis de Wohl.

Yes, I've read this book too, when it was read by the club in August 2017. This was the discussion:

This post actually anticipates a different question. :-)

I've also read The Dumb Ox by Chesterton, which I preferred. I think that The Quiet Light is ok but not great. I enjoyed the final 1/3 a lot, but the first 2/3 dragged a bit.

Good to know! I'm planning to reread this book & will enjoy reading the discussion after that.
In this i bit disagree with Kristi in my case i liked really much this book. In my opinion is one of the Best books written by Louis de Wohl.
The end of this book liked really much especially the progress of Saint Thomas Aquinas and his Saint death.
