Bouchercon Raleigh is only 6 months away! Anyone else getting excited? I know a few of our VBC members are registered; anyone else planning on attending? LRK is registered, and it should be a fun time!

John, unfortunately I think Alice and I will have to miss it as we will be returning from England rather too close to the dates and B'Con would be too tough a turn-around, especially for Alice!

And of course, Merrily, we are all jealous of why the two of you will be in London!

Excellent, Dina!

message 7: by KarenB (new)

KarenB | 352 comments I know I said I was going to be there, but it appears that it overlaps with a business trip for my husband and I'm not really willing to leave my 15 year old son by himself for 4 days. Not that he's not a good kid, but . . . .

I did tell my husband that I WILL be in New Orleans in 2016, no matter what!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing New York Comic Con instead this year. I've never been to New York and I have a few friends who want to make a week of it.

I'm bummed to be missing Bcon, though =/ *shakes fist at convention organizers for making me choose*

KarenB | 352 comments Well, maybe we can have a mini-get-together in NYC instead, Erin!

That would be super awesome, Karen!!

message 13: by KarenB (new)

KarenB | 352 comments I know, me too, John. My husband looked rather abject about it since he knows how much I enjoy going. I do expect to see EVERYONE in New Orleans the following year. Right? Right?

As the time for Bouchercon Raleigh approaches now might be a good time to remind/let folks know that we (VBC members)try to get together with LRK for a meal at B'con, if at all possible. At the very least we like to get our folks together to see what we all look like in person! If you will be attending B'con 2015, and would like to join us for whatever type of gathering we can manage, please feel free to contact me at john.t.bychowski@gmail.com, or PM me on Facebook (John Thomas Bychowski). We always look forward to seeing VBC folk face-to-face, and Bouchercon is one of our main opportunities to do so! You can also leave any messages here on this thread.

John, I will be there and can't wait to get together with you and the other VBC members attending!

Friday night dinner? We could do it early, since there are always things going on in the evening--5:30? (Yay Seniors' Specials!) Any recommendations for a place in walking distance from the BCon hotel? Because we should have a reservation...

Friday night early dinner sounds great to me! I'm not familiar with Raleigh, but I'm sure someone here will be.

message 19: by Dina (new)

Dina | 81 comments Depending on the weather and the distance I might not be able to do it. The weather determines if I can take my scooter out and if I can't, the distance determines if I can make it.

So hopefully I will be there but I am not sure.

This place (Buku) looks kind of awesome. I would be all over that if I was going to be there this year!

message 21: by Laura (new)

Laura Stratton | 241 comments It's been nearly 40 years since I lived in Raleigh so I don't know any specific restaurant anymore. Raleigh is a large metropolitatan area. You should be able to find just about any chain restaurant you want along with lots of local places too. The hotel should be able to give you some suggestions. Or get on Margaret Maron's Facebook page and ask her for her ideas since she lives nearby.
For the Barbeque lovers in the group try to find the local hole-in-the-wall BBQ joints. Raleigh is in the middle of the Eastern NC Style BBQ area.

I wish I could come for the first time this year but my family from nearby Durham is coming to visit me that weekend. SIGH....

Meredith Taylor | 37 comments Hi, everyone! although I am pretty invisible here a lot of the time, I am a serious Bouchercon-ite. Very excited about Raleigh! Erin, thanks for the heads up re Buku. I have been checking on places and will talk to the concierge at the hotel if there is one. I knew you'd like all the beer in town, Erin! so will Laurie!

Laura, thanks for the great idea about Margaret Maron's FB page.

hope to see as many of you as possible!//Meredith Taylor

Meredith | 10 comments Hi, again! I've gotten a line on a couple of places for a Friends of Laurie dinner, in close walking distance from the convention hotels. (The hotels are the Sheraton Raleigh on Salisbury St. and the Marriott City Center on Fayetteville St.) Our plan is to dine on Friday Oct 9 at 5:30, allowing plenty of time for all the events before and after.
I wanted to EMPHasize that you do NOT have to be registered for Bouchercon or attending it, in order to come to the FOL dinner. Hoping to see local interested folks, if they can make it. Please shoot me a PM on Facebook, or if that doesn't seem to work, do same with John Bychowski. There are about 9 Meredith Taylors on FB in Los Angeles, but only me with this photo! I will make sure you know our exact location for the dinner.

Hi, Dina! I have send you a Goodreads message. hope it works! //Meredith

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan Shea | 19 comments I hope to bump into some of you at Bouchercon, if not at the FOL dinner since I have a conflict that evening. I'm moderating a panel on humor Friday morning at 10. Brad Parks is on it, which is a guarantee of laughs! Bouchercon is the most delightful event, a chance for readers and writers to spend time face-to-face, that inspires us for the rest of the year in our virtual engagements - see you there!

Hope to see you all in New Orleans.

It was wonderful that you were able to join us, Dina! It was a good time.

Dina | 81 comments It was. And the restaurant was great. I posted a review to Yelp because I thought they were so good.
