What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I'm looking for books where houses/castles/buildings have names (like Tara in Gone With the Wind, Hogwarts in Harry Potter, etc). Age and genre are not important, I'd like a wide range of books to choose from. Thanks!

You can try Deephaven. It’s the beginning of a series and it’s not a favorite book of mine. But it meets your criteria so I’m adding it to the list.

One classic is, of course, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. The house could well be considered a main character in the book.

Ashenden by Elizabeth Wilhide. The house is the main character thru multiple generations.

Possibly you might enjoy a look at At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson. Although I don't remember the house having any name except "The Old Rectory", it was a Victorian house where he and his family lived when he was in the UK. He got fascinated with its history, and wrote a room-by-room tour of the place, explaining how each room would have been used when it was built.

Rose Red by Stephen King and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier are both about houses . Both are enjoyable reads .

For classics, I love “The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall” by Anne brontë. Fantastic old romance. In a similar vain is also “Northanger Abby” by Jane Austin.

For contemporary YA fantasy, there is the “Six of Crows” dualogy by Leigh Bardugo. It has lots of fun names such as “The Slat”, “The Ice Court”, and “The Crow Club”

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier has an estate, Manderley, that is really a character in itself. The house influences the story and reflects aspects of the characters, in a similar way to Gone With the Wind.

I don't know how Pride and Prejudice has not been mentioned yet, but you have alot of these in it, with Pemberly, Netherfield, Longbourne...

I suggest keeper of the lost cities it is recommended for hp readers and is amazing one of my friends who would only read hp and liked basically no other books fell in love and keeper of the lost cities is now tied with hp which was really surprising to our little group when she told everyone

Also wings of fire if you read the first book and think you don’t like it try the sixth book the series is set in three parts so you can start from book one six or eleven but the first part is not my favorite of the series but they are still amazing
