Robin Nolet | 5 comments I would like to update my book description for The Shell Keeper. My page says I have permission to make those changes, but when I add the new description and tried to save it, it said it could only be done by a librarian. So how do I go about replacing my old description with a new one? Help, please! Thank you! Robin ;)

Martin | 37223 comments You should be able to change the description on new editions to which it should apply, what you cannot change is the default description.

Robin Nolet | 5 comments There is a check box at the bottom that says 'set this as the default description', . Can I not check that? I did, but it still didn't let me. I recently had the description rewritten by a professional service and I love what they came up with, changed it on Amazon with no issues. so I wanted to update my Goodreads description as well, to match my Amazon description. Is this not possible??

Martin | 37223 comments You can change description on individual issues but cannot change the default.

Robin Nolet | 5 comments By default do you mean the original description? Since there's a box saying you can set it as the default, along with an option to use the original default I'm confused why those are there if you can't change them.

Robin Nolet | 5 comments Also--when I tried to do it, it said:
Update default description can only be set by Goodreads Librarians

Does that mean it CAN be done but only by a librarian??

Martin | 37223 comments Yes, but we would only change a description if it is incorrect.

Robin Nolet | 5 comments That's unfortunate Authors are notoriously bad at writing blurbs, etc.. Particularly first time, independent authors. I would imagine most changes are in order to improve things rather than correct them. It does not incentivize authors to improve either their writing or marketing skills. On every other platform authors tweak and update and improve their marketing but I think this holds them back on Goodreads.
