November 2009: Day of the Dead - Read a YA book that has the word "dead"/"death"/"die" in the title, the word "remember" in the title, OR takes place in Mexico.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may having regarding this task here. Also, once you have chosen a book you may post it here and any expectations you have for the book. Remember to let us know once you have finished the book here as well! Have fun reading and let me know if you think there is anything missing with this task.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Sounds perfect!

Shanna | 51 comments I'm not positive what I'm going to read yet but here are some books I'm considering...
Me, the Missing, and the Dead
Once Dead, Twice Shy
Generation Dead

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Looks good Shanna.

message 6: by Mazmum (new)

Mazmum | 12 comments Dead until Dark by Charlaine Harris or The Undead series by Mary Janice Davidson?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I believe both of those series are classified as adult. However, if your library or nearby bookstore classifies them as Young Adult, then that would be fine. I really want to read both of those series as well.

message 8: by Mazmum (new)

Mazmum | 12 comments Ok, how about Dead is The New Black by Marlene Perez:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-New-Blac...

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Mazmum, that one would be okay. That's another series I want to read! I think my TBR wish list is a bit too long. :)

message 10: by Mazmum (new)

Mazmum | 12 comments Tell me about it!

message 11: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) The Dead Until Dark series is an adult series I'm pretty sure. I've read them, and there's quite a bit of sex. If you've seen the show TrueBlood, you'll get the idea.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you Angela. I haven't seen the show, but I was thinking about netflixing it. :D

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, that's exactly it. Every month we will have a new task for one book for that month and will be ongoing so anyone can join in whenever they have time. If you decide to read a book that fits one month and not the next, that's fine too. :)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Oh, geez... I gotta start checking the main threads more often... I keep missing stuff! Hmmm... what to read....

EDIT: Do the words "die"/"death"/"dead" need to be exactly that? What about words like "dies" or a book like Inkdeath? Just curious....

Those would all be fine. As long as it includes the word. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows would also be accepted.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds good, Jo! :)

message 17: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Bueno... Thanks!

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Linda Grace, are there going to be page minimums for the ongoing challenge books?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Angela, I don't have a minimum number of pages for the ongoing challenges. I will add this to my rules page! :)

message 20: by Luann (new)

Luann (azbookgal) | 274 comments I'm planning to read Johnny and the Dead by Terry Pratchett.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Nice one Jo! I will add you to my spreadsheet and update the scoreboard on the other thread! :)

message 22: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments I'm working on finishing up Inkdeath... It's loooonnnngggg...

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

It is long. Good luck with it! :)

message 24: by Sara ♥ (last edited Nov 06, 2009 08:21AM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments I finished Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke yesterday. It was LONG. Good, but LONG. I really liked how it ended... although she kept the ending WIDE OPEN for a spin-off series, didn't she? ;)

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Good job Sara, I have that series to read at home, but the size does intimidate me somewhat. I will add your name to our scoreboard on the other thread.

message 26: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Yeah, I don't know if I would have read them if they weren't in audio format... They're quite quite fat books...

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Audio books huh? For awhile I was reading a lot of books that way because my library has a way to download audiobooks to ipod for the 2 week period you would normally check out the book, but then my ipod stopped working. :( I enjoyed audiobooks because my desk job allows me to listen to books while I am working so that was nice.

message 28: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Yeah, that would be really nice—listening at work. I put them on my Zune and listen as I cook and clean around the house... And I have a cassette tape-to-portable CD player converter for my car; those work with mp3 players, too.

message 29: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) I love audio books. I borrow the CDs from my public library then put them on my mp3 player and listen to thrm while I drive- it really makes commuting pleasant :)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments How did you like Sonya Sones' book? Have you read any of her others?

message 38: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Sara,

This is the second one of her's that I have read and I really think that they have such a great character's voice. Also, my students easily connect with her books. They are also pretty quick reads because they are books in verse.

message 39: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Agreed. I've read her 4 YA books, and I love the poetry! What My Mother Doesn't Know is my favorite.

I really love how she writes. It is so insightful and beautiful. Of the two I've read, What My Mother Doesn't Know is the better.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Kellee! You're going crazy with the death books! Don't get too depressed or anything, okay? ;)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Sara ♥ wrote: "Kellee! You're going crazy with the death books! Don't get too depressed or anything, okay? ;)"

Hopefully next month will be more cheerful :)
I like the ongoing challenge, because it helps me narrow down the books I want to read. Sometimes the list of books I want to read is so overwhelming, that it is helpful to have a topic or theme to narrow it down :D

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Kellee, I am glad you are enjoying it! :)
