I'm up to Chapter 18 and greatly enjoying the book so far. Non-spoiler comments:
I'm not a devotee of the Marvel universe but have watched most of the movies and some of the streaming TV series, including "Jessica Jones," which I'm guessing takes place before the events of this book. I'm glad I did as there seem to be some reference to events that took place during that series, although they're vague enough that they don't require you have watched it in advance. Jessica Jones is an interesting character.
This seems to be the beginning of successful mystery authors taking on a mystery involving one of the Marvel characters. Interesting concept. I wonder what made Lisa Jewell tackle this? I read her novel None of This Is True--in fact we did this as a Group Read--but can't tell yet whether the style from that book appears in Breaking the Dark.

Jessica is a bit of a mess, although she's a fearless woman who I'd want investigating for me if I had something requiring a PI. She alludes to some superpowers but so far we don't see any evidence of them, so we'll see.
I'm find the jumping back and forth in time and to the POV of different characters a little disconcerting but will hang in there. The plot has got my attention, especially the Stepford Sibs and whatever happened to them in England that turned them into what they are. I'm a little worried about Jessica's teen associate (Malcolm) who is working undercover to befriend the sibs, but so far he seems okay. However, Jessica is now in England trying to find this friend "Belle" who seems to be at the center of their transformation, so if Malcolm gets into trouble she won't be able to rescue him.
Looking forward the rest of this!
No spoilersCarol, I was not familiar at all with the Jessica Jones tv series or the Marvel movies. I've started the tv series now though!
I agree that while the effect of the dual time lines eventually paid off the constant switches in point of view were not completely smooth. I did quite a bit of rewinding to reorient myself; after almost every switch I found myself saying "wait, what, who?"
No spoilersYes Ann, exactly. Not good for reading in spurts either... I find when I do I have to pause to think who I'm reading about if it isn't the present day storyline.

I know little to nothing about the marvel universe and took gail's advice to do some research about jessica jones.that said, I finished this book in 1 day and really enjoyed the story even though it was a bit "out there" for me.
i read an e-galley of it on my kindle and the time changes were not smooth at all- they heading "Dates" kind of ran into the end of the previous paragraph so made it a little choppy.
i did notice that luke cage's story is being written by SA Cosby.
Sherry: I am looking forward to the S.A. Cosby Luke Cage story and the one by Alex Segura . I get what you mean about the story having the out-there elements. When I am in the mood, I really enjoy that aspect, and this time it really grabbed me. Interesting the breaks between the different timelines also weren't smooth on the Kindle either.
i agree with everything you said, carol.the stepford twins had me wondering what was going on with them. i loved Malcolm and how willing he was to do whatever jessica needed.
Stayed up until 1:30 in the morning to finish this. I loved it. Will post more later. Maybe after I do some of the aforementioned research, lol.I am JAZZED about SA Cosby doing Luke Cage's story--cannot wait!! Loved the Luke Cage TV series. I kept looking for reference to Luke Cage being African American in the book, but don't think there was any and don't know if he is in the Marvel universe. More research!!!
Oh and I will say that after reading this I have MUCH respect for Lisa Jewell. She has written a TON and I've only read None of This Is True, which I liked but didn't love because I thought it was over the top. But now comparing it to Breaking the Dark it was tame, LOL.
