One of my favorite books. Has anyone else read and enjoyed this slow, peaceful, mythic story?

Lauren (dorkusmalorkus) | 1 comments You've inspired me to pick it up again. It was a wonderful read the first time, too. Slow, peaceful, and mythic - a very apt description! The book had its moments of drama of course, but I definitely find the parts involving Wise Child simply bonding with and learning from Juniper to be the most memorable aspects of the story.

Yes, As I look at the reviews of this book, many of the reviewers mention the book's impact on them when they read it as a child--sometimes as young as 9 or 10, sometimes as late as high school. That's a wonderful thing to remember: what books meant to us then. And to imprint on or swallow this book down as a child would be a wonderful thing, I think. I read it as an adult, and I was still impressed--and affected.

I agree with you. It's imperative to find novels that actually speak to young adults, keeping in mind that these may not even be labeled YA. You have a lot of adults now reading YA but you also have some young adults that savor well written adult novels. I have three sons and my 7th grader was really taken with Holes, Unbroken, The Book Thief, and Fat Cat. My 6th grader with The Tribe: Book 1, Racing in the Rain, and the Alex Rider series (He even wrote a review on GR and the author wrote him back. Talk about meaning something to a kid!) They both loved Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. My 2nd grade boy loved Alex Rider, Mortal Instruments and Little House on the Prairie. Go figure!

Yes, go figure. Science fiction was important to me as a young reader, and that was adult science fiction. Of course, the Hitchhiker's Guide would be beloved!

Noortje de Graaff (lordkiwii) | 1 comments I absolutely loved Wise Child! I read it when I was quite young and it made a huge inpact on me. I loved the relationship between Wise Child and Juniper and it added to my already growing love of mythology and fantasy. I re-read it a while back and fell in love again with the story! Still such an amazing read, I really enjoyed it and it brought back memories from when I first read it!

Yes, Noortje. The book had a calm heart, a gentle pacing. I plan on re-reading it soon.
