Death by Dumpling - Vivien Chien

Death by Dumpling is the first book in a cozy mystery series. Lana works in her parent's Chinese restaurant. When the landlord dies of a deadly food allergy after eating dumplings from the restaurant, the restaurant's cook becomes a murder suspect. Lana doesn't believe that Peter, the chef, is capable of murder and she is determined to find out who really did it.

This was a typical cozy mystery. It reminded me a bit of Arsenic and Adobe that I read earlier this year. I liked the community around the restaurant in the book and all the people that live and work there. I wish the characters were a little bit more distinctive, but I expect that will happen more as the series continues. The mystery itself was interesting and I did not guess who did it before it was revealed. Overall, if you like cozy mysteries that take place in restaurants with first generation immigrants as characters, give this one a try.
