Tonya (tonyaf) | 29 comments I am so excited about this month's picks! I got:

The Pairing by Casey McQuiston Hera by Jennifer Saint A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher The Seventh Veil of Salome by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

The Pairing and A Sorceress Comes to Call are two of my most anticipated books of the year, so I'm thrilled they have both! I was not expecting them to have the T. Kingfisher!

I was thinking of getting Happy All the Time by Laurie Colwin but then I saw that this was published back in 2000.... so I'm asking why offer it, if there are so many other new books? anyone have any idea?

message 5: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyaf) | 29 comments I believe they are highlighting an author who they feel deserves more attention. They added Family Happiness, another one of her books last month.

Here's what BOTM say in their description of Family Happiness:

"One of the best parts of being on Book of the Month’s Editorial Team is sharing with you, our members, a book or author you might not have encountered before. While we usually give this to you in the form of the best new releases, every once in a while, something different sneaks up on us. That’s why we’re thrilled to share with you Family Happiness by the late Laurie Colwin, an under-the-radar talent we’re shining a brand new spotlight on.

Using a powerful and unique voice to highlight the minutiae of domestic life, Colwin wrote a variety of fiction and nonfiction until her unexpected death in 1992. Her work is character-driven but never boring—each page is steeped in drama, humor, and sheer life. While Colwin wrote in and about a time decades ago, her singular ability to capture the human experience makes her work timeless. Book of the Month believes that Laurie Colwin still has a story to tell a new generation of readers, and so we wanted to give our members a chance to step into her quirky, relatable world.

Book of the Month has selected three books that capture the essence of Colwin’s talent. We begin this series with Family Happiness, a story of a woman in a midlife crisis and the messy—but beautiful—relationships that form it. An ode to the many forms that family and happiness can take, Family Happiness is sure to strike a chord in any reader.

And keep an eye out in subsequent months for more from the great Laurie Colwin."

Her books sound good and I'm hoping to get them all in a future box!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 507 comments As usual, I can't decide! lol These two were the first two that I knew I wanted to get and in this order:
Hera by Jennifer Saint The Wedding People by Alison Espach

So I'm sure I'll get those two. Not sure yet what else I'll get. I've ordered Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight from my library. Otherwise I have to figure out if I'll get more and which ones.

message 7: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 1961 comments I read Like Mother, Like Daughter with my mom and we both LOVED It! It was so good!

I'm definitely going to read it! If you liked it, I KNOW I will!

message 10: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 47 comments I actually ordered The Wedding People by Alison Espach because it sounded so different from what I usually read and I heard good things. I did think about Hera by Jennifer Saint but decided to get it later because I wasn’t in the mood. Also I made sure to get it earlier this time but my box is still slightly delayed because a lot more people picked it than BOTM thought. I’m still excited though!

YAY!!! Pick your dates and add them for us. I'll be home all of August. In September we're going to Cabo on the 23rd through Oct. 3 so maybe give us 3 days between any BR's we do during that time.

Kristen | 15 comments The Wedding People by Alison Espach
I am about to start it finally (I'm a month behind on my picks). This book sounds like it will be right up my ally.

I just started BOTM and I can't wait to hit the "Best Friend" status so I can add more books for less. :)

message 16: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 507 comments Congrats, Kristen, the only problem I have with BOTM is finding a place for them because my home has run out! lol I keep saying to myself that I need to donate them to the high school library where I used to teach, but when I begin going through them I don't want to part with any of them...ridiculous! lol

My hubby did that for me and each time he did it to surprise me when I went to Florida to visit my sisters and brother and a bunch of nieces and nephews. lol But now we really have no more room for building more shelves. Ugh...I need a mansion! lol

I totally agree with you, I have so many I ran out of room, so he bought me another house. LOL

But that's a whole other story, the pro side of that is I get more space for my books! Now when I move back he's going to have to build me that library he's been saying he would build. He has one and a half year, then I'm moving back.
