POWERLESS | AUGUST
My first read through but has been on my TBR for a long time! So ideally we are to read in the next 2 weeks is that right? ☺️
hi! we have the whole august to read powerless!! so, there isn't really any specific timeline.
you can discuss the book anytime during this month,
however, last 2 weeks (from august 19 to 29) i’ll make the club more interactive, by adding questions, suggestions!!🙌🏻
hopefully this helps!
I’m definitely gonna reread Poweless cause of the Novella and Reckless ✨But the first time it was 5⭐️ the tension is everything <33
i haven’t read novella and reckless yet.i’m also going to reread powerless and maybe read other books in the series
I've read this book before. not too long ago ig. but i guess I'll go through it again. i totally loved it the first time and it's definitely re-read Material
I've already read it and I actually liked it! It's not perfect but it's also not bad yk? Maybe 3.5 or like 4 stars
im so so happy that powerless was chosen as the book for this month bc i’ve been wanting to read it for so long and i picked it as my vacation trip book🫶 im only on page 170 but so far i love the built up tension!!
so exited for everyone who reads powerless for the first time. have a great vacation and enjoy your book💫
julia wrote: "hi! little update message: how far into the book are you?"I haven't started yet, but will hopefully do it today😁
i just finished it a few hours ago and i don’t know if i have no words or too many. (10/5⭐️ for me😭🫶)
haha, guys, i’m sorry. i literally found 15 grammar mistakes in my last message…🙌🏻 don’t mind them 👀
the book was okay… too many troupes shoved into a book and they weren’t even subtile about it. i hate how many times the word sticky is used, and the beat part of the book was Kai! 🥴😣
yep! i feel like author wanted to put as much tropes as possible. book felt too nostalgic, and i can’t understand why. it did remind me of hunger games. doing interviews and trials, it all sounded same to me. characters were copy - paste. especially, paedun. she acted so similar to katniss.
the only fun thing in the book were powers and how paedun was pretending and hiding the whole time🙌🏻
I gave this book 2 stars because I was expecting something exciting to happen, but it never did. I also found the chemistry between the characters to be unconvincing and forced. Additionally, I'm still upset that they killed off my favorite character.
I read powerless a while back and it's absolutely amazing!!The tension between Kai and Pae is adorable, a definite 5 star read.
i think, i’ve seen people/author advertise this books as enemies to lovers. but it definitely wasn’t. kai was attracted to paedun from the beginning. and he wasn’t secretive with this. he had never seen her as enemy (except last chapters)the whole book is paedun trying to deny her feelings. which i can understand, considering him being “royal” or whatever and her being an ordinary.
no one could ever make me dislike this book. i loved it so so much it’s a part of me now. i loved the tension between kai and paedyn from the start and yes they were never truly enemies to begin with but i grew to really love the characters and the end broke me😭😭 im currently reading a stand-alone book bc i cried so violently at the end of Powerless, i physically couldn’t continue the series right away but i can’t wait to read the next books😍 also i love hearing others opinions, good and bad🫶
I read Powerless a couple of months ago but decided to reread it, so that everything would be fresh in my mind for when I started Reckless, and once again it was a 5 star read! I can’t wait to start the next book since the first one ended with such a cliffhanger.
For me it was a 4 star read. The story reminded me a lot of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. You really need patience for the enemies/rivals to lovers part, but I somehow found it quite good.
There is also plenty of suspense.
Fantasy is not my favorite genre, but I'm still looking forward to part 2 (and hopefully the third volume).
I read powerless last month, but found it kinda disappointing based on all the hype it got from TikTok. I think I was just expecting more. But I’m still happy I read it, it just doesn’t rate high on my book list, and I don’t think I will be reading the rest of the series. It gets a 3/5⭐️ from me:)
I did however really enjoy how the author describes the clothes in the series, she paid good attention to details and the reader gets a good picture of the gowns and outfits. ✨✨
discussion question 1: What character had the best development in the book. Why?What did you find shocking/unexpected in the book?
I feel like Powerless didn’t have too much character development, but I’d say Kai had some. Reckless is where more of the development happens :)
i’d also say there wasn’t much development in characters. but i guess it’s not that bad because it’s a series. so we probably will get much more later on
i think kai had the most character development even if it was little bc he went from having to kill everyone and having mercy on children to being so betrayed by paedyn that he almost vowed to never let another ordinary live again
to better understand my point he basically went from hating his job to never letting an ordinary live again😅
but also, it’s very understandable for paedyn to “betray” kai(his family). they were literally killing her people. they probably would’ve killed her… it’s a terrible feeling to be betrayed by someone close. but paedyn would never feel safe telling kai about being ordinary. i think she’d always live in fear and now she’s more “free” in a way.
also, when he found out and the whole situation started, what was he expecting? so many mixed emotions about both of them
question 2: would you consider Lauren's (author's) writing strong. why?/why not? do you think she successfully described characters, world, cloth, emotions, atmosphere, environment around, etc?
i think her writings not extraordinary or anything out of this world but it was enough to perfectly understand what was happening and the whole ilya/loot world building😊
i personally think world building and description were the best characteristics of powerless. i particularly liked the way lauren was changing descriptions of places. palace and streets (were paedyn lived) - specifically. it was also very easy to see change in atmosphere, when new characters would walk in.
overall great vision of the world and characters, except trials description. i don’t remember (maybe i skipped this part) about purpose of trials. was it just for fun? because it wasn’t really said anything about them
i wouldn't really consider her story writing strong, it was good. she describes every in a very nice was and the world buliding was good. but as for the story I think it kinda lack a bit of originality. it felt like she took scenes from many books and composed into one. it was fun and very engaging it a bit too "booktok-y"
My predictions for reckless are that its just going to be an book of cat and mouse between Pae and Kai and he finds her and brings her to Kitt and she most definitely will be spared. I found the book a bit too slow and didnt enjoy it as much as i would! I felt it wasn’t unique at all and the author used a lot of ‘inspo’ from other books but it felt like it was copied in some parts. Also i actually was more intrigued by Pae and Kitts relationship as i didnt feel the chemistry between Pae and Kai till like the last 150 pages?? Before that it felt forced 😪
Maybe me not being able to feel the chemistry might be down to this being my first YA book. Im used to a little bit more between love interests. Even something as simple as a kiss! So that maybe be down to me as a reader rather than an issue with the book.
