Hooked on Books discussion

Rules:
1. There are 50 Monsters + 6 Bonus Monsters to hunt for the next three months. Each monster has the weapons that can kill them listed. Since I’m the Mistress of the Hunt, you’ll find some unorthodox weapons.
2. Read books that will have the weapon(s) listed for the Monster on the Cover or in text or simply read a book with that monster.
3. There is no particular order, you can Hunt as you please.
4. HOB Standard Challenge Rules apply.
5. Bonus Monsters are worth surprise points.
6. Everyone on the Team has to read for the Bonus Monster. Reading for the same task is allowed.
7. Divide and Conquer. Apart from the Bonus, each Monster can only be read by 1 Hunter.
8. Hunters have to read for the Bonus Monster/check-in before moving onto the regular hunting.

Bonus Monster Rules
1. You get 7 days to read for the Bonus Monster and Check in!
2. You have to start the book after the Bonus Monster task has been posted
3. You can't use the same book for the Regular Monster and the Bonus
4. Remember this is Competitve Challenge!
5. Reading for the same task is allowed
6. Have Fun!!!

Hi! I'm Shan from Louisiana. I'm mainly a romance reader, but I like to throw other things to shake things up a bit. Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Horror, Urban Fantasy, Biographies/Memoirs, some other non-fiction (very occasionally, lol)

I currently work from home, and I think my family forgets that because they are constantly talking to me like I'm just on my computer during the day for fun & games.

We are very soon, in the next 2 weeks, to be part-time empty nesters.

I think I've been teammates with the both of you at some point and I'm super excited to team up again.

Anastasia, I think we may be on a team together now, but I could just be thinking of another time. My mind is bad.

Hi Kat! They are going to school. My youngest as a freshman and middle daughter finishing up her degree (if she doesn't change her major again), so they'll be home periodically on some weekends and breaks.

I like Knives out. Only one I can think of is tome raiders which I know I have used before in a previous challenge.

I like both Knives Out and Tome Raiders.

Tome Raiders has the advantage of being book related with tome.

What’s the best way to find if a book fits? Ans each one only one hunter reads for them so how will we did divide it up? I’ve never played before

First time for me playing as well. As I read it, do we have to do a bonus task before we start on the others? Not sure how to divide up unless we just claim those that we find books for?

The bonus task will be posted at different times throughout the challenge.

We can just read and post as we go. The only time there is a timeframe and we each have to read for the same monster is when the bonus monster is called.

Last time I thought I was going to have to read a lot of paranormal books, which is no problem, but you'll be surprised where some of the words pop up in other placed.

I thought that means that the bonus will be posted at the start and that is the first task. Or do we just start reading for the monsters on Sept 1st?

Think they’ll be posted throughout we won’t know when they get posted so could get posted in between monsters that’s my understanding

Any thoughts on crime books with monsters? I may be bowing out as I can’t find any books with monsters in the title or cover as not something I read

I love all Steve Higgs books. His paranormal series mention monsters as well as have weapons on cover as well as in text. I have found The Golem of Hollywood for golem. I think most crime books would mention the weapons in the text

They are quite niche weapons, don’t u have to find monsters too? If it was just weapons oe monsters I’d be ok

I believe it is either. You would be surprised as some of the weapons used in the murders.

I don't think the weapons in text would be all that hard to find as they just have to be mentioned

Anastasia is correct last time I read a ton of Romance novels that had the name of the weapon in text

I assume that we can start. I finished and logged my first book and I hope this is correct. Since each monster has a few weapons, do we just pick one from the list?

So do we just go based on the spreadsheet I thought we had to be given them?

Since it is the first and nothing happened, I just assumed we go off the spreadsheet. I'm not really sure how this works but there are 50 monsters listed and each has a few weapons so I figured we just pick one. I read for the monster to be on the safe side. Lots of similar weapons so I guess we just pick one that hasn't been taken.

Can we use books we have already started? I tried to ask,but no reply

The only tasks we'll be given is for the Bonus Monster.

Everything else we need is on the Spreadsheet.

Ex. Monster: Vampire
Weapons: Wooden Stake, Holy Water, Garlic, Scythe

Options to complete
Vampire in book
Wooden Stake on cover or in text
Holy Water on cover or in text
Garlic on cover or in text
Scthye on cover or in text

Either of those work for the monster and then you're done and can move to the next monster.

So if I read or

Either of those would work because one has a scythe on the cover and the other has a vampire in the book.

Also, most of the points are based off pages, so it's not necessarily a race to see who kills the most monster, but who has the most points.

2. How do the monsters have to appear in books? Like, a woman referred to as a siren or phoenix or hag, would she count as one? Or would it have to be a real siren singing and splashing around, the phoenix burning and flying, etc?
Ans: Has to be the actual Monster. A phoenix should be the burning kind in the book

Only finish dates count so can be started in August but if you finish on Sept 1st or later then you can use it.

That’s annoying looks like il be mainly sticking to weapons

I mainly did the same except for the monsters that I generally read about anyway i.e Vampires, Werewolves, and a few others. The weapons are usually easier though.
