Gord and I will be making our way through the light novels. If anyone else want to join feel free!!

Let me take a second to introduce you our MC, Maomao, who is probably one of my favorite MC's.

She's so great! I want to see your maomao merch!

Ive started and I can see myself binging my way through all of them. Loving it. It helps in this case that I've watched the anime as I can see the areas she is in and I know how to say the names!

I just got to chapter 12 (view spoiler)[ where she goes into Lihua's residence.

I've been enjoying it in this format. Yeah I miss her facial expressions and cat ear like moments from the anime too though. (hide spoiler)]

See what I mean. It's not a deal breaker but those anime moments just add this little something to this mix. It elevates her personality just that little bit.

I'll likely finish the first one in the next day or two. Might have to read a book in between before jumping in to the second one but Ill see.

Finished the first one! So good. I do love Maomao. Wonder how far into the second one the first season of the anime goes?
What are your thoughts on Jinshi?

Jinshi is an interesting character that I don't think we've had all the secrets to fully revealed. He has his oddities but I think he genuinely cares for Maomao at the end of the day. It just gets really complicated considering his societal standing and his job.

I like his oddities and I agree I think he cares even though he doesn't always understand why. Yeah the societal standings make it so much harder.
I hope we havent had all the secrets revealed about him yet. Definitely want more

Read the second one! So good. Brings us to the end of season 1 of the anime. Very curious where things will go next.
(view spoiler)[ The way Lakan is portrayed is so well done. I wasn't sure how it would be without the visual effect of him and his inability to distinguish people.
I did find some of the reminders of who people were to get annoying at times though. All the ways Jinshi can be described and all that. (hide spoiler)]

I finished all the available manga tomes, now I decided to switch to light novels too, finally got my hold on the 1st one. Will catch up soon :)

Book 3 thoughts
About 6% in. (view spoiler)[ the porn books and Jinshi's reaction to them was amusing. Also like that he used the shop information to get fiction books made for the emperor to give the consorts as the quality was so high. (hide spoiler)]

in chapter 5 21% (view spoiler)[ Loving seeing Xiaolan learning to read and write. Curious about the newer maid and her love of bugs. Wonder what role those drawings may play later on. All those strong perfumes in one place would be terrible! Also interesting that all of them have potential negatives on a pregnancy, coincidence, probably not.
Missing woman at the start of this chapter, should make for an interesting next mystery.
The cat is adorable and I love how so many people fawn over her. I also adored the comparison of cat lovers to Maomao with Jinshi that was so fun. (hide spoiler)]

I found the ultimate way to twist my arm into actually remembering to read the light novels. I'm getting physical copies of them. I'll be picking up volume two this weekend.

Yay!! I need to get back to them. Took a break after the 4th one and then never went back. Think 5 was the volume the library was missing... hmm
