William Carroll | 1 comments Hello all. I have recently been getting in to reading in my spare time to replace tv nonsense. I enjoy suspense, mystery, whodunnit type books. I have learned for the sake of keeping me engaged and reading further that shorter chapters around the 6 or less pages is almost* as important as a captivating story line for me if that makes sense. If anyone has any recommendations I appreciate it.

Thomas (tom471) | 2020 comments Try the various series by ROBERT B PARKER
Parker is now deceased and the books are written by persons authorized by his estate. Here is my review of a successor book. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Christine Mathieu | 583 comments Mary Higgins Clark was one of the first authors who started with short chapters.
Try "Where are the Children?" (1975) and "Stillwatch" first, it might get you hooked.

Mike | 534 comments If you are looking for exotic locales or just something a bit different, I would suggest Tony Hillerman (Navaho Reservation), James Doss (Ute Indian protagonist Charlie Moon, gets better as the series progresses) William Kent Krueger (northern Minnesota). If you like dark, I suggest Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series or the husband-and-wife team of Lars Keplar. Dana Stabenow's books set in Alaska are also a great read.

Thomas (tom471) | 2020 comments I second Hillerman, Stabenow and Kreuger. Jo Nesbo is very dark.

William, I am currently leading the group discussion for The Teacher by Freida McFadden. I really like her books as the chapters are short and there are lots of twists. You could check her others out as well.

Jessica Lewandowski | 10 comments Hi William!

I just published an emotionally gripping suspense thriller and mystery book, Fire and Tears, that will take you on one heck of a roller coaster ride you never expected to go on. I’m looking for reviews if you are interested.

FREE WITH KINDLE UNLIMITED! See link below. ⬇️

Overview:

Jade speeds down the road in a stolen vehicle determined to get away from the man relentlessly pursuing her. She flips over the guardrail and lands nose-down on the tree-covered mountainside. Staggering out of the car and bleeding from her head, she knows her life is in danger. However, Jade’s determination won’t allow her to stop there. Especially not when Ivan starts to pursue her on foot. She’d rather take her chances running down the snowy mountainside on a cold winter night with only the light of the full moon to guide her way. Would this be just another escape attempt gone awry?

Jade is a stubborn, persistent, and compassionate seventeen-year-old girl with some grit and some wit. She is sold to the highest bidder by her stepfather, a man once a hero to her, but now a monster. And he wouldn’t be the only monster she would have to face. Nor the only monster she would fight. Because she would fight. She can’t help but fight, even when she knows the odds are against her.

When Jade is sold to a wealthy businessman, Ivan, she expects to become his sex slave, but things take an unexpected turn when she is gifted to Ivan’s brother. Seemingly now in the clear, Jade quickly realizes that Ivan remains a constant threat, and he shows no intention of ceasing his pursuit, despite his brother’s demands not to touch her.

Meanwhile, there is a mysterious man who has been looking for Jade when he realizes she may be in danger, but every time he gains an inch, he loses a mile. When he finally manages to get her to safety, Jade has a hard time truly escaping her monsters when her mind won’t let her forget what Ivan did to her. But perhaps forgetting her monsters isn’t how she’s meant to overcome her battles. No. Perhaps facing them is the only way for her to have her victory. So this time, if he comes for her, she’ll be ready. And she’ll fight.
