September Mini Challenge - In The Kitchen

For this prompt, get creative and pick any book that somehow relates to cooking or the kitchen. This may be a character who loves to cook or works as a chef or baker. A kitchen may be featured on the cover, or the word “kitchen” included in the title, subtitle, or series title. The book may be written by a chef or an author whose last name is Kitchen (Kitchener, etc.)

Here is the link for our Goodreads List, feel free to add your suggestions to it!

Denise | 589 comments Maybe this will inspire me to finish Consider the Fork. It's an interesting book but I keep distracted by other books, mostly for book clubs

Jolien (joliendekoninck) | 74 comments I had little inspiration for this prompt, but one of my colleagues suggested Disney's Ratatouille. Listened to the free audiobook on YouTube and how thit I enjoyed it. Good storyteller, the sounds and voice acting were very good and lively. Got me so nostalgic to when I first saw the movie as a child.

Alexis (goodreadscomarwebb13) | 3 comments I just discovered this September challenge. I ended up reading Playing St. Barbara by Marian Szczepanksi which talks a lot of the women in this story ad their time in the kitchen.

Aquaria | 295 comments I'll go with Butter by Yuzuk Asako, about a chef who murders with food, LOL.

Michele Olson | 578 comments In the book The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine by Alina Bronsky, the main character, Rosa, spends time in the kitchen, though not as much as you would think from the title. BTW, contender for the worst mother in literature.

message 16: by Mary Sue (new)

Mary Sue | 144 comments I read Death by Dumpling by Vivien Chien. It begins with a man being murdered by eating shrimp dumplings which he is allergic to.

message 18: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Foxton (fivetwofoxton) | 102 comments I read The Cornish Wedding Murder by Fiona Leitch. The main character is a former cop who starts her own catering company.

message 19: by Ciara (new)

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 29 comments I read Madwoman, in which grocery stores play an enormous role.

message 20: by Jen (new)

Jen | 88 comments I read Have the Men Had Enough? by Margaret Forster

She was such an amazing writer. This is about dementia affecting a family, & while some of the terms & medical treatment may now be out of date, the experiences, the feelings of caring for someone with dementia remain the same. There was a lot of talk about food & kitchens, which fits the prompt.

I'm going to reread all her books & recommend them to everyone! I'd hate her books to be forgotten. Only 2 titles are available on Audible UK, yet she published 29 novels.

message 22: by Devika (new)

Devika (youactlikeicare) | 172 comments I read A Proposal They Can't Refuse by Natalie Caña. A romance between a chef and a whiskey distiller who have very nosey grandfathers.

message 23: by Beth (new)

Beth | 149 comments I read Murder at King’s Crossing (Wrexford & Sloane, #8) by Andrea Penrose. McClellan is the Wrexford's faithful cook.

message 24: by Shonna (last edited Nov 25, 2024 12:55PM) (new)

Shonna Froebel | 255 comments I read The Mistletoe Mystery by Nita Prose. The main character's partner is a pastry chef at the hotel they work for and his cooking is a part of the plot. https://cdnbookworm.blogspot.com/2024...
