Books that I have selected are often not updated or found here. Some books have different reviews depending upon if it was a kindle or hardcover.
I believe GoodReads was hurting book sales for many authors and they probably wanted this place shut down.
I believe Amazon has succeeded in this respect.
As for keeping records of my book reading, I just use personal apps for my own personal book collection. I no longer use GoodReads anymore.

If there were another website doing what GoodReads does (or did) anywhere as well, I 'd probably use it. But if it exists, I for one haven't yet found it.

Gosh. I still like, use, and appreciate GoodReads. There are some things they could and I wish did better. But they do lots of things right. The Weird Fiction group I moderate is reasonably lively and vibrant. I hope that in a year or two this new SF group I've started will be well off the ground and helping people find and discuss fun, good, short SF.

Fellow Science Fiction Aficionados, I last week created a new Science Fiction group here on GoodReads. It is not for SF in general, or even for the SF novel. There are already so many groups here that do that.
The new group I refer to is devoted solely to works of science fiction shorter than the novel, meaning less than 40,000 words. Science Fiction: The Short Stuff (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...) is finishing its first poll (running through August 31, GMT) to determine September's group reads. If you dig the shorter stuff, this could be a group for you.
