Humanity, which has spread throughout the universe, is involved in a war with the Invaders, who have been covertly assassinating officials and sabotaging spaceships. The only clues humanity has to go on are strange alien messages that have been intercepted in space. Poet and linguist Rydra Wong is determined to understand the language and stop the alien threat.

I've got the book on hold from the library.

Chad | 872 comments Looks like my library system has just one copy of this and it’s currently checked out. I requested it so hopefully I’ll get it by the end of the month.

The whole recruiting a crew thing is pretty out there but stick with it.
I like all the stuff about how different languages work.

Has anybody read Snow Crash? The way this talked about language reminded me of that book.

Chad | 872 comments This became available for me at my library this weekend so I went and picked it up. I haven’t started reading but it’s a pretty beat up copy and I flipped through it real quick on my way out of the library and stopped. The second half is printed upside down? At first I was upset thinking that someone had tampered with the book but the binding and pages didn’t look at all tampered with. Interesting! I can’t wait!

That's a separate story. They printed them together in a weird way.

Thanks for that, BookNerd

Chad | 872 comments I started reading. I agree with you, Book nerd about the recruiting. It’s well written and I’m enjoying it. The little intro tells me that the author was just 23 when this was published. Impressive!

I agree with both of you that the recruiting thing is weird! But I like the premise of the plot. It's also really moves along.
