I have read and own every one of these titles. I'm a fan of each book. I do believe My Daddy is a Cowboy and The Yellow Bus have the greatest chance at a Caldecott win. My Daddy is a Cowboy is a personal favorite. Charles Esperanza creates art that is exciting, vibrant and he never forgets his audience. I'm rooting for his latest release 100%
The Yellow BusThe vibrant yellow bus stands out against the gray background of everything else. The gray children and people who climb aboard the bus suddenly gain color themselves. This study in the life of the bus shows that when it can no longer transport people, it can at least be a shelter for others. The illustrations are beautifully executed. I also think this book has a chance for a Caldecott medal.
My Daddy Is a CowboyA nice story of father-daughter time together, but I thought the oil paintings were rather garish
