For what it's worth, Amy Pascal let her option expire.Another outfit [name withheld] bought the rights (maybe last year). It's unclear if status has changed due to info I transmitted to them, including the 1985 interview of the reimagined protagonist —about which readers know nothing other than almost entirely false details on p. 501 — in which he told a distinctly different tale (to borrow a phrase from below) from the Forrest Gump-esque version created by the author. Like the core story(ies) at the heart of the book, the 1985 version is uncorroborated...contrary to insinuations and claims in the novel.
It's unclear whether it will ever leave the "in development" deep freeze under the circumstances, but the author asserted on FB that it will. If so, it won't feature Holland.
An old "trivia" blurb on IMDBPro from two-three years back attributed to the author a remark that the movie or miniseries would be "distinctly different from the book".

Current Production Status:
The movie is in the early stages of development, although after years of no updates it’s likely it has ended up in a ‘development hell’ status.

The book was first published in May 2017. A few months later in August it was announced that Amy Pascal and her production company had purchased the film rights and that Tom Holland was attached to the lead role. There has been no news or updates since then.
