Malibu Rising Adaptation Timeline: Shortly before the book was released Hulu bought the series rights. The book was then released in June 2021 and immediately hit the New York Times Best Seller List. There have been no further updates, however with multiple other books in various stages of production, waiting might be an intentional choice. In her July 2023 newsletter, Taylor Jenkins Reid confirmed that work on all of her adaptations had been stopped because of the dual WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike.
Who Owns The Rights: Hulu purchased the production and distribution rights for the miniseries.
Who Is Attached: Liz Tigelaar, who created the Little Fires Everywhere adaptation, will be leading the Malibu Rising adaptation. There has been no casting or director news.
