It's time for our next round of suggestions!

Just a reminder that you can find a full list of prompts already on the 2025 list in the third post on this thread.

How Suggestions Work:
- The topics for the 2025 reading challenge list will be determined by a series of mini-polls, the number of which depends on the number of prompts winning in each mini-polls
- Suggestions for each poll will be opened until 15 suggestions are received and “seconded”.
- The voting thread will open the day after suggestions go live. You can find the schedule here.

Rules:
- Each member can only suggest OR second one prompt
- Suggestions close after 15 total seconded prompts

When suggesting and seconding, feel free to provide examples and descriptions that may help other members understand the prompt better. These descriptions and examples will be copied over to the voting thread for further discussion.

As always, please express any and all feedback (respectfully, of course), either here or in The Wild Discussion.

Moving on to Voting:
1. A book relating to fire
2. A book with food as a major theme or plot device
3. A book related to butterflies or moths
4. A book connected to something mentioned in the Do Re Mi song
5. A book recommended to you on the website https://meetnewbooks.com/
6. A book published by an independent publisher
7. A book considered children's literature
8. A book from the NPR “Books We Love” lists
9. A translated novel from Asia
10. A book with (at least) 25 chapters
11. A book with a character in disguise
12. A book with a theme of starting over
13. A children's book that is somehow related to a book you are reading this year
14. A book that includes a challenge to the health of the planet
15. A book with a competent main character

To Be Seconded:
- A book with a page count that ends in 5

Joyce | 641 comments Trying again with the butterflies and moths!

A book related to butterflies or moths.

As well as some obvious books such as:
Whisper of the Moon Moth
The Butterfly Effect
Flight Behaviour
The Mothman Prophecies

many butterflies and moths have funky names. Here are some UK examples:

Butterflies

Purple Emperor
Red Admiral
Grizzled Skipper

Moths

Deaths Head Hawk Moth
Elephant Hawk Moth
Footman
Chimney Sweep
The Mouse
Old Mother Shipton (a witch)
Puss moth
The drinker
The conformist (and the nonconformist)
Beautiful Snout

Also trapped butterflies seem to be a current cover trend for books about women in difficult circumstances.

Here are some Listopias:

Tina | 157 comments Emily wrote: "Yes, please word your prompts as "a book that..." or something similar"
From GR: Children's literature is for readers and listeners up to about age 12. It is often illustrated. The term is used in senses that sometimes exclude young-adult fiction, comic books, or other genres. Books specifically for children existed at least several hundred years ago.

Tina, are you ok with how I worded your prompt in the first post of this thread?

message 16: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1273 comments A book featuring one of the items from the do re mi song

e.g. a deer (female), a drop of golden sun, a name i call myself, a long way to run, a needle pulling thread, a note to follow so, a drink with jam and bread, bringing it back to do

This could be a cover, title, or theme prompt

message 17: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (last edited Sep 11, 2024 05:31AM) (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11365 comments Mod
Haha I will count one as the suggestion and one as the second! Though they are slightly different - which wording do you prefer?

message 18: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1273 comments Since Ellie and I posted close to the same time, I will second hers.

message 19: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 3008 comments Lol I deleted it, can we go with connected wording? A book connected to something mentioned in the Do Re Mi song

Doe! - a deer, a female deer
Ray! - a drop of golden sun
Me! - a name I call myself
Far! - a long long way to run
So! - a needle pulling thread
La! - a note to follow SO
Tea - a drink with jam and bread

Eg. Deer or sun on the cover, title containing a name, long distance running, about clothing or the textile industry, about music, a cosy mystery/fantasy with all the tea

Dubhease | 1273 comments Ellie's wording is better than mine.

Oh! That's neat. Funnily enough, I had intended to do a similar suggestion today. Mine is based on literature-map.com, where you type in an author's name and get recommended authors that are similar to the one you searched. But, since they're so similar I won't do mine.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 21 comments Fee wrote: "A book with a character in disguise."

I second this one.

message 41: by Gloria (new)

Gloria | 14 comments A children's book that is somehow related to a book you are reading this year.

Examples: It shares one word in the title - "Good night, Moon", if you read some book with the word night or moon in the title.

Written by the same author.

Similar covers.

Etc.

Gloria, you cannot suggest AND second something - only one action on the thread. Since we already have a children's book on the list, I'd recommend using your second here, but it's your call.

Edit: Actually, that suggestion has already been seconded, so I'll count your suggestion.
