Sebastian walked along the gravel path up to the graveyard. The small stones with names of students surrounded him, the first in the yard he passed possibly thousands of times by now.
Beside him was Kamala, now Shard. The young girl always accompanied him, every night, to the graveyard. Specifically to Carwyn's grave. His bestfriend. Her brother. The two had connected over the death. They were never close otherwise, but both needed the support system.

Today was the official two-year anniversary of Carywn's death. "Day 730," she said quietly to no one in particular. Probably Sebastian. The older boy was the only one who had actually ever visited the grave with her. And he hadn't missed a single day since the death of Carwyn.
The silence around them was intense. The only things breaking it was the sounds of the pebbles under their feet, the breeze, and the rustling of the leaves on the trees.

The silence was broken. The quiet, shattered voice to Shard spoke. "Day 730." It was a simple statement but both of them knew the meaning behind it. 730 days since Carwyn was killed.
The days since the funeral had been filled with tears on their way to the grave. Now, they were silent. The walk was their reminder of the dangers of the Sidhe. I'm sorry Carwyn. I didn't train you enough... Maybe his best friend would be alive if he had trained the dude better.
The vines covering forgotten graves grew less as they progressed through the yard. They became readable, stating things like sentiments, hobbies, quotes, funny memories. Anything to bring joy to a student who died at the hands of the Sidhe. A single silent tear fell from Sebastian's eye.

As the vines on the graves disapeared, the golden rays in the sky shone moer brightly. The orange and red of a beautiful sunset took it's place. He used to love watching the sunset with me... And this was one of his favorites...
The memories of Carwyn overwhelmed her enough to force her to snap from her mind. The crunching of shoes on gravel caught her attention. Standing tall above her with his head down was Sebastian, she looked up to see his face. A single tear fell from his eye, ran down his cheek, then hit the gravel. Neither stopped to look back where the tear fell as they locked eyes. Instead, they kept going as they approached the graves from the most recent times.

The tear fell behind him. Shard had seen it. They had locked eyes. Then it was over. Just like Carwyn's life...
A cloud covered the sun, the light around them disappeared. Darkness fell over the graves. Any sense of joy disipated into the soft breeze.
He watched the paths as he walked. They were getting closer. Much closer to Carwyn's grave. The darkness surrounding them ended, the cloud had moved on. The setting sun shone a golden-orange over the graves.

The golden-orange glow surrounded them. The landscape of the graveyard has always been sad but beautiful. Especially at night. It was so peacful. Carwyn would have loved it all. The golden rays. The simple gravestones. Her brother had been simple, enjoying the simple joys of life.
She made an abrupt turn. Stepping of the gravel. The crunching disapeared signalling Sebastian had followed her off the path. The passed between stones nearing a grave littered by dead flower petals. Petals that were the remnants of Carwyn's flowers that were brought to the grave periodically.
