How do you feel about swearing in books?

A professor of English at my university, said, I am told, "Swearing shows a passion for the language." Like you, I'm no prude, but when swearing is batted between those in the conversation, it becomes a massive turn-off for me. I've put books down because of the continual profanity.
I completely agree with Lady & Bianca - I find swearing is a definite turn off - I didn't allow it in the office and I don't see why it is included in books. There are plenty of good books without swearing, violence and explicit behaviour. If it is necessary for the plot (?) it can be handled more circumspectly in all three cases. Just my opinion but I do feel strongly about this.
I agree with you all. I say that a little bit of swearing is no problem at all, but when it’s just a lot and every page has like more than 5 swear words, sometimes it can take away from the story and kind of annoy the reader. I feel like it can also be a distraction if it’s too much swearing.

I hate it and will even quit reading a book if it has too many swear words. I just don't need to read that stuff.
