• Kidnapped By the Krampus - Emily Shorehttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
This was probably one of the most ridiculous books I’ve ever read 😅. I bought it at the end of the season last year after seeing someone else share it. I don’t know why I fall into these traps so often, knowing full well I don’t enjoy the majority of erotica. But the thing is, I can’t really pinpoint what it is that determines whether I like it or not. I really enjoyed the first few books of Ice Planet Barbarians series (and plan on reading more when I get my hands on them - just waiting for more matching cover special editions to be released), so why didn’t I like this book? I dunno. But I was definitely getting bored by the halfway point. It has a pretty cover at least? And printed page edges.
Challenge Complete: Wolfsong by TJ KluneI’ve loved some of Klune’s books, but some not so much. This is one of the not so much ones. Maybe because the whole idea of loving someone without actually knowing them is usually a basis for things going bad. And I don’t get the idea that Ox and Joe really know each other. Mostly, they just seem hot for each other. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but I would have liked to see the relationship grow over time. For them to come to like each other.
About halfway through the book, one of the other characters describes their relationship like this:
Oh my god, Ox, your life is like those shitty sparkly vampire movies. That I’ve never seen and don’t like at all, shut up.
Maybe not the most elegant way of describing them, but certainly succinct. I don’t know if Klune was poking fun at himself, or trying to be able to say “oh, no, it’s not at all like that.” But it is. And the sturm und drang never lets up, which makes it hard to like either Ox or Joe.
At this point I’m not sure if I’ll be reading the next book in the series. Part of me wants to, but a big part of me doesn’t.
Challenge complete: The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan. I love almost any book cover with a library on it! This book was pretty good. The story is of a woman losing her librarian job and reinventing her life in another country by starting a mobile bookstore in a van in Scotland.
Read Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. I didn't have any particular cover in mind, so just picked one from my fantasy list, they are usually good for a pretty cover. A fun read, here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
