Introduce yourself!
A hi! here from Denmark. I am so exited to participate in Nonfiction November again. I will make my TBR during the next week.
Hi, I am from Macedonia and this is my second year. Last year was so fun, so I decided to do it again.
I’m from New England, in the US. My challenge is to read one book. I am a mostly fiction reader but past non-fiction Novembers have given me an appreciation for the genre.
Howdy! 😉 I'm from north Texas and I saw an invite for this and decided it might be fun. I guess my goal for now is to find at least one nonfiction book for the month. I'm a mood reader so I don't plan in advance! Anytime I've tried to do that, my plan goes out the windows pretty quickly.
I'm from Washington state and have looked forward to Nonfiction November for at least 3 years now. At this point I have a few nonfiction books I've put off until November that I'll be reading and will see if any of them fit the code words when I've read the books. I like essay collections, memoirs, history, narrative nonfiction and some science (lean toward medical and environmental/nature).
Hi from New Zealand. I'm going to attempt to read (and finish!) one nonfiction book this November, maybe more if I can find the time.
Hello all! Joining you from Oregon, USA! So excited for Nonfiction November--this event has tuned me into my love of non-fiction. I'm hoping to meet all three prompts but, so far, have only decided on 2 of the books:The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson
Liar Temptress Soldier Spy by Karen Abbott
Both of these would work for Shot, and I think I can get the latter to work for Code, but we'll see!
Hi, I am originally from Serbia, but living in the US. I have been doing NFN for a few years now, reading at least one NF book in November. I usually share my books on Instagram @ablurbfromtheserbI hope everyone picks books they will enjoy :)
Hi! I’m Annelise and I am from the US. I currently live in Indiana and am about to graduate from my doctoral program. I have three cats who love to lounge with me while I read, and a husband who I am slowly converting to reading :) I typically read about 4-8 books per month, with about 25% being non-fiction. My goal for November is to double that number, and have at least half of my books be non fiction. I’m so happy to be here!
@martha I think you would really like The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey! I encourage others to check it out as well 🙂
Hi! I’m Ashleigh, I’m from Canada and I’ve participated in Nonfiction November for the last few years. I’m so excited to join in again. I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to read to match the prompts with what books I already have. Still looking for a book for join but I’m sure I’ll find something.
Jean here from beautiful NW Wisconsin. Already exceeding my goal to read more nonfiction this year. This is the perfect group to find more good books to read.
Hey guys! I’m Tay, a small BookTube creator and lifelong bookworm. I enjoy nonfiction quite a bit as I enjoy learning. I am from Kansas City and live with my husband, two daughters, brother in law, and two ancient dogs! My goals for this year’s nonfiction November is to read some of my nonfiction owned TBR as well as diving into the 300+ nonfiction books I have shelved here on goodreads.
I received the Time Travellers Guide to Medieval England last year as a gift and will be making that a priority!
This is my 3rd year participating and I love this challenge!
Hello everyone. I am Harini from India. I usually read fiction with a bit of non-fiction. But this year I haven't picked any non-fiction books yet so hoping November will be the month. This is my second time participating.
Hi, I'm Wendy (@wjcsydney on Instagram) and I live in the upper Blue Mountains in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area in NSW, Australia. I mainly read fiction, but love memoir and read a couple of non-fiction books a year.
Hello fellow nonfiction aficionados. I'm joining you from NY, directly across the East River from upper Manhattan. I discovered BookTube and Nonfiction November in time for its second season and have been an eager participant ever since.
Some years I've successfully completed a book or more for each prompt, other years I've been less successful, but I've loved the prompts each year. I find assembling my TBR so exciting, like going on the best ever scavenger hunt, and this year has been no exception.
I plan to devote November this year to reading only nonfiction and will be reading from my owned books, mostly ebooks because those are easiest for me to read right now, in addition to a couple of books I've requested from the library, and one more I've been wanting that I've used the prompts as an excuse to buy.
I'm also beginning my own (rules yet to be determined) read-what-you-own challenge, and I have so many great nonfiction books already, so this is perfect timing for me.
Looking over my tentative lists, I expect to be wereading history in one form or another, primarily social history, biography, and memoir.
Happy reading, everyone. And thank you so much, Olive, for giving us such great prompts and inspiration this year and every year. Thank you.
My name is Jackie and I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have been following along with the challenge for a couple of years but it's my first year diving in. In general I read about 3 nonfiction books per month so in November i am looking at reading 6. Looking forward to this and seeing what everyone is reading!
Hello, I'm Carly from the Great State of Michigan! I'm a librarian, a musician, and a fiber artist. I fiddle in a punk folk band and I spin yarn and knit lacy things. I have an old kitty by the name of Sherlock Jones (he's a grumpy goose), a young kitty boy who goes by the name Scratch (he's orange, and he's a very simple creature, but full of love), and a brown pup-dog named Daisy Bowie Garcia (she's too smart for her own good and lives to play ball). My spouse is a musician and a jack-of-all-trades. We live in an art gallery (I know, right!?) because his day job is groundskeeper and maintenance for the gallery and property, and the job came with an apartment above the gallery. I read from just about every genre, but I'm still fairly picky about what I pick up in a way that I'm not quite sure how to explain, and when it comes to nonfiction I particularly enjoy memoirs and nature and science writing. My TBR is too big (I currently have 40 books checked out from the library and a couple of my owned books on deck; check out my "Up Next" shelf to see what I've got lined up). A couple of my library books are overdue, so I'm prioritizing those first. I'll have to pick one of the nonfictions on my shelf to set aside for NFN. This is my first time participating! I'm very much looking forward to reading with this group.
Hello, Daniel from sunny (ha!) Florida. I am new to non-fiction November, but I am game to read a few more non-fiction selections for the month. I am at a roughly 4:1 fiction to non-fiction ratio for the last 4 or 5 years, but previously I was a primarily non-fiction reader. I have a slew of political books-- I am sure everyone will not be burned out by politics in November/s and sports books to help me with the challenge. I have a bunch of social media: facebook, twitter, instagram, which I infrequently check. Hope everyone has a grand week and avoids natural disasters!
Hi, Ron here from Texas (she, btw. Gender neutral name). This will be my 5th year participating in Nonfiction November. This has been a great initiative.I normally read 80% or more nonfiction books on any given year so it's my perfect genre. When it comes to sub-genres, my main focus is History (specifically Indigenous history). I also enjoy Ecology, Psychology, and Pop Culture.
I'm planning to add 4 books to each prompt. Doubt I'll get to all of them, but I'm giving myself options.
November is also Native American Heritage Month so I certainly plan to incorporate some Indigenous books.
Looking forward to this month long journey with you all. And Olive, thank you for doing this again this year. I will certainly continue my own NFN every year when it's over. It's been a blast!
Hi, I'm Kallie from Wisconsin. I have casually done non-fiction November for several years but I think last year was my first in the Goodreads group. I read about 30% nonfiction throughout the year, which is around 100-130 books. I love science, social justice, nature, and climate non-fiction, but really I'll read almost anything. I haven't ventured into sports, but maybe this is the year. I have no tbr yet, I'll try to get one together :)
Hello all, I am Allison and I am a librarian from Dallas, Tx.
I typically read about 50/50 fiction/non fiction.
This is my first time in the group and I am hoping to finish 5. Can't wait to make my TBR!
Hi All. This is my sixth year of he challenge. I look forward to November all year. I have begun my list I’m putting books on hold.
Hello, I am from Indiana in Greenwood which is just south of Indianapolis. I have been married for 48 years, have 3 adult children who are all married. I have 9 grandchildren, 2 rescue dogs, and 1 cat. This will be my second year participating in Non-fiction November. I plan to read 4 one for each prompt. I have already read 13 non-fiction books for this year so far. I am on Goodreads, Storygraph and Fable. I welcome all friends! I am also in 2 physical book clubs here in Greenwood. My other hobbies include house plants, cross stiching, knitting and crocheting.
Hi! I'm Lana from Bosnia and Herzegovina and this is my sixth Nonfiction November, so I have 6 books on my TBR. I hope to finish at least 4 of them, though it would be great if I manage all of them.
My name is Jackie and I live in Minneapolis Minnesota. I have been participating informally for a couple of years. I tend to read 2-4 Nonfiction books a month and a total of 10-14 books per month. My Nonfiction list for November is TBD at this time.
Hi, I'm Lisa from the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I work at a library so I am always tempted by books. I love non-fiction and especially enjoy memoirs, social justice, travel, science, nature writing, and books about birds. I read about half non-fiction and half fiction and typically finish 75-100 books a year. I am hoping to read The Demon of Unrest by Eric Larson for shot and The Oregon Trail by Rinker Buck and listen to the book Olive mentioned in her video today called In Praise of Paths. Looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading!
Checking my stats this year I'm at 82% nonfiction books. Normally I keep it above 80%, so what I have is fine, but I can't wait for NFN when that number will go higher.
Hi, I’m Julie from Connecticut. I belong to a non-fiction book club in our local town library so I already read one nf book a month. I’m aiming to read 3 in November. Our book club pick in November is Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Looking forward to picking two more great non-fiction books.
Julie wrote: "Hi, I’m Julie from Connecticut. I belong to a non-fiction book club in our local town library so I already read one nf book a month. I’m aiming to read 3 in November. Our book club pick in November..."Braiding Sweetgrass, nice. I hear a lot of good things about that one. It's actually been on my shelf for a long while, I just never seem to get around to it.
Hi all! Claire, kiwi in NYC, I’m excited to join this for the first time! I typically aspire to read 1x NF every ~2 months, so aiming for 2x in NFN. Looking forward to it! :D
Hi! I am from the Midwest section of US. I have participated a few times in Nonfiction November. So far this year, I have managed only 15% Nonfiction. Hope to read some off my shelves. Most especially, The Bully Pulpit.
Howdy, I'm in Texas and this is my first "official" participation in Nonfiction November. I'm a mood reader but enjoy nonfiction and have my eye on a few potential reads :)
Hello, I'm from Canada and I'm not sure yet which non-fiction book I'll be reading. I have many TBR on my book shelves on various topics. I actually just bought one from the philosophy section of the bookstore today. I'm thinking I might go with that one, but we'll see. Anyway, I'll try getting back into "In Praise of Shadows" by Tanizaki and finish it before November rolls around. 😅
Hi I’m Janine I’m from Maine. I am a new subscriber to Olive’s channel and new to this challenge.Excited to read the book about Sunday In The Park With George as Broadway musicals are my passion. I am also looking forward to Scenes From My Life as reading Matthew Perry’s memoir Friends Lovers And The Big Terrible Thing has led me down a path of wanting to learn more about Substance Use Disorder.
Nice to meet you all.
Lisa wrote: "Hi, I'm Lisa from the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I work at a library so I am always tempted by books. I love non-fiction and especially enjoy memoirs, social justice, travel, science, nature ..."The Demon of Unrest is a great one for NFN! I own that and might switch!😆
Mary wrote: "Hello, I am from Indiana in Greenwood which is just south of Indianapolis. I have been married for 48 years, have 3 adult children who are all married. I have 9 grandchildren, 2 rescue dogs, and 1 ..."You are a busy reader!
I realized I hadn't introduced myself although I have posted my TBR for NFN on that thread! I am Kristin from Iowa. I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 7. Reading is my great love, but I also enjoy gardening and travel. I have been participating in NFN since the second year when I found Olive's channel. I usually read 75% fiction and 25% nonfiction. I read more nonfiction now than in the past, and love the recommendations both here and on Olive's channel and other book tubers' channels. I am on Instagram as @bookwalk1.
Hi there,I’m Neil from London (United Kingdom). This will be my first time participating in NFN, there are a few autobiographies on my kindle for me to read.
Hi! I’m a recently retired grandma in Tennessee. I have always loved reading nonfiction. I discovered Nonfiction November on YouTube and decided that this was the challenge for me. I’m looking forward to a month of all nonfiction all the time!
Hello from Maryland! I’m Wendy and I have 3 non fiction books lined up for November. I’m already reading The Barbarous Years by Bernard Bailyn. I plan to read The Path Between The Seas by David McCullough- I finally cruised through the Canal last spring and I didn’t tote my hardback copy along because it was so heavy. Now is the time! For fun, I will read The Ultimate Bar Book by Mittie Hellmich. So Path and Shot are taken care of, how do I squeeze American colonization into code or join?
Hello, I am Theresa from Illinois and I have been around for so long that I don't remember when I started. I am sorry this is Olive's last year. I know I will always think of nonfiction in November.😊
Hi, I'm Andrea in Seattle -- a socialist feminist and a regular reader of nonfiction, mostly political works. This year without exactly planning it my books to meet the challenges are mostly backlist books from the dusty part of my TBRs. Several of them recommended by Olive at one time or another! For join, Speaking Out: Queer Youth in Focus, a book of photographic essays from 2014. For code, a newer one, Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations by Mira Jacob, a graphic non-novel about an interracial family. For path, Common Ground: Encounters with Nature at the Edges of Life by Rob Cowen. For shot, a re-read of Notebook of an Agitator by James P. Cannon, from all the way back in 1958, but with sections dealing with the rise of a fascist movement in the U.S. in the 1950s that are unfortunately all too relevant today.

I'll start! You may know me already, but I'm Olive, a booktuber and freelance book reviewer. I started this event 10 years ago (whoa) because I've always loved nonfiction and I wanted to encourage the community to pick up what is a magical, yet often underappreciated genre.
I live in the Rust Belt of the United States of America in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with my wonderful husband and two cats - an elderly tortoiseshell named Thea and a youngster calico called Tanqueray.
My goal for the event, as always, is to pick up exclusively nonfiction during the month of November (that's not a requirement of the event, just something I like challenging myself to do each year). I'll be doing the challenges and reading a few more books for booktube content as well. All nonfiction, all month long!
Leading up to November and throughout the month, you can catch me talking about nonfiction on all of our socials:
a dedicated instagram page with a post-per-day challenge for November: @NonfictionNovember
some short form videos on TikTok @NonfictionNovember and @NonficNovember on Twitter.
If you'd like to connect with me personally, my YouTube (Booktube) channel is abookolive and I'm on Instagram @abookolive. I'm also very active here on Goodreads!
I can't wait to hear what you're all planning for this very special, 10th annual Nonfiction November!
