Morning/Evening everyone! Welcome to Inferior Painting where all those cracks, chips and dents are celebrated.
Wait... It doesn't actually say Inferior... Ok, interior painting; that thing I still need to do to fix the cracks from our house settling over the last 10 years.
It's time for the next round of Wheels! There are a couple of additional rules to the normal set that I'll summarise here.
1. Have fun and be kind.
2. Every team member has a reading cap linked to their sign up number. It is a minimum of 4 books extra (if you read less than 8 books a round) and a maximum of 30 books in total (relevant if you read 20 or over). For everything in between you get 50% more than your sign up i.e. 12 books gives you another 6 to reach the cap.
3. There are bonus points for older and longer books. They can stack so if you read an old chunkster then we get both sets of points.
Admin
- Captains are the only ones who get to add books to the official team sheet in post 1.
- A team tracking sheet will be available soon and will be linked in post 4
-You should be able to see the team sheet, but no write access to it.
- If you don't want to add your books to the planner, that's fine; just post a completion post with all the letters & reasons.
- Don't forget to add your books to your shelf.
- You are expected to check into the team at least once a week, so we know you are still about and playing.
- If you have to reduce your reading / are going to go quiet / etc etc do let us know so we don't worry unduly (either the thread or directly as a PM to one of the captains or even to the mod account)
I'm Sophie, one of your captain trifecta with Mel and Karen. I'm from the UK. Real life is full on as a mum of 2 small munchkins who both have birthdays in the next month and working full time as a GP.
I will read anything up to and including a cereal box (which have got less interesting since I was a kid) except horror.
My shelf is chores.

My house is definitely inferior painting!
We moved in 13 years ago and it is still on the to-do list!
Hello everyone. I know many of you and have sent a friend request to those I haven't played with before.
I've also found our shelves and linked us all up in message 7 above (Audrey Jane - you just need to create your shelf)
I live in Sydney, Aus with my husband and 2 kids (just turned 9 and 12) and run a HR consulting company. Life is busy with a lot of boring chores.!!

🎡🎡🎡 Hello Team! Very excited to get this Boring Wheel rolling with you all. Will come back later to do a proper post.
That makes me feel a little better about my lack of painting! I managed to fill in the cracks a month ago, but the next step hasn't quite happened yet. Maybe after Christmas...
I don't think anyone is inferior...I think we're all valid. 🙃Hi peeps. Richard's the name, reading's the game. 43, from Albury, Australia.
I only like to read non-fiction & am currently reading around 2,000 pages a day. If you're wondering on how I can read so much, I have a neurological thing called "Hyperlexia". 🤓
That means I average at least 120 books a month. So for this challenge, I'll just post 30 of the chunky &/or old books I read each month.
This is my bookshelf for the challenge:

Hi team, Lisa checking in.. I’ve had the pleasure of being in a team with quite a few of you, hello again. To those I’ve yet to meet , pleased to meet you.
I’m a mum of 3, Nanna of six, small business owner with my husband (dairy farm), avid reader and traveller.
I’ll be a bit quiet for the first week as I’m cruising around Japan right now but will be reading and adding my books when I return on 19 October.
I love searching for obscure tasks or letters and will read anything for the team including space smut and some real clangers. 😖
Happy reading all.
Wow Richard! I knew there were some v big readers on here, but you take it to another level! Thank you for being willing to be flexible with what we use.
Hi Lisa! I hope you have a fab time in Japan. We'll try to avoid the need for too many clangers this time round.

Hi Richard - that is so interesting (I just did some googling!). Did you learn to read at a very young age also?
Hi Lisa - Love your holidays ; always somewhere!! :)
Hi Lisa - Love your holidays ; always somewhere!! :)
Hi Lisa! While we have been reading alongside each other for quite a while, I think this is the first time we are on a team together.
Japan sounds fabulous. :)
Richard, what kind of non-fiction books do you like reading?
My non-fiction reading is around 35% of my whole activity. Mostly I like to read (listen to) History and Music books and biographies.
Here I am with my proper intro this time: :)I am Melinda (Mel for short) and live in Hungary, in a small laketown with my husband and my 10-year-old son (who registered to GR in the Spring and I am getting him addicted to reading challenges in small doses. He got adopted by/into the awesome Monster-Hunter team I am part of. 🥰) .
I work for one of the EU Agencies and commute on a train 3 days a week (precious reading/listening time) and work from home 2 days. I am CET (Central European Time, UTC+2).
I love reading and reading challenges. Books in any format are my joy, though in the last couple of years 2/3 of my reading have been on audio.
My favourite genres are the classics, history, biographies, fantasy and golden age detective fiction.
I read almost anything if I am in the mood for it and if the team needs it, but horror/thrillers are a No-Go.
I'm sorry to say I'm a no-hoper when it comes to DIY, painting, drawing and all those skills, though recently my colleagues and I did manage to re-paint the fence of a kindergarten as part of a charity project we are doing every year. :))
Karen - Yes, I started reading when I was 2 years old. I don't think I've stopped since. 😆Mel - I like reading a range of different non-fiction subjects:
Biography, business, cooking, geography, health, history, leadership, mythology, philosophy, psychology, pop culture, productivity, relationships, science, sociology, technology...
This is one of my fave non-fiction series:
https://www.goodreads.com/series/6482...
I have a huge collection of ebooks, so I can usually find a book that fits any task. That is, unless the task is specifically fiction (ie Historical Fiction, Romance, Fantasy, YA, etc)
Great to meet you all! 🤓
Oh & my timezone is UTC+10.
Thanks for sharing, Richard.Actually, it reminded me that I have read the Matrix philosophy book from that series, but as it was way before I joined GR, I have forgotten to add it o my read-shelf. 😊
Oh also, I just want to add that my intent isn't to be competitive or make anyone feel less-than, in relation to my reading habits.I just have a passion for learning new things & becoming a better human than my past self. For instance, I can speak a few languages now; the one I'm currently studying is Russian.
Hi everyone! Just doing a quick check in and will come back and do a better one when electricity and internet is back! In a few hours I hope 😬
Hi Everyone. Great to be here. It's late and I'll read through the thread in the morning but wanted to check in.Sophie, Mel or Karen, I discoverd that the link for my name goes to someone called Jessica. This has happened a few times before and it seems to that my author profile number causes the problem. It is fixable though but I've no idea how.
Elisabeth wrote: "Hi Everyone. Great to be here. It's late and I'll read through the thread in the morning but wanted to check in.Sophie, Mel or Karen, I discoverd that the link for my name goes to someone called ..."
Welcome to the Team, Elisabeth.
Yes, formulas with author profile number & name are tricky.
Karen has found your user profile (3226935-elisabeth-rose) and she already linked it on our spreadsheet, it just wasn't updated in the thread yet.
Please save this number/name and use them for future challenges where this info is requested.
Hello again! Seems like NBRC did an awesome job snooping ;) I picked up painting as a hobby just a few years back so I know this be the right team for me!
I'm from the Philippines and I'd like to think I read across genres but my profile says otherwise. It's pointing out that I mostly read fantasy, romance, and mystery/thriller with a healthy dash of literary fiction and memoirs.
I am willing to read anything for the challenge really as long as it's not horror/sci-fi/queer/goth. Nor space smut and clangers (dare i ask what these are?). Maybe it's time to finally pick up at least one Dostoevsky?
Let's get painting! ;) I once painted a mural about 8ft x 18ft for a friend just because. It was fun but tiring.

Is it okay to partifipate in the Spellshop discussion even though I have read the book outside the team challenge? Read it a few weeks back.
kat (wanderfulbooks) wrote: "Is it okay to partifipate in the Spellshop discussion even though I have read the book outside the team challenge? Read it a few weeks back."You can participate in the discussion, but our team won't get points for it unfortunately.
We need to start books after 12 Oct 9pm UK time to count for points in general and also read the BOM books during the set discussion period to get those extra points in particular.
Hi Kat and Elisabeth!
Kat it sounds like a lot of us need your help with our decorating!
Today's dull wheel of life job was our dishwasher deciding that it didn't want to drain properly which it does every 6 months or so. After a thorough clean of every filter and seal I can find, I'm hoping it'll work properly in the morning when I turn it back on. For tonight, there was just a small mountain of washing up.

On the classics note, I've been trying to work my way through the 1001 books to read before you die list. Really not been getting very far, but the extra points may be the boost I need!
R*E*S*P*E*C*T Sophie. While I love classics in general, I have never ventured near that list. :)On the other hand, I'm planning to read Little Dorrit for Wheel 9 depending on the words we'll be getting. :)
I've read 73 of them in my life (majority of those in school) so I wouldn't go giving me too much credit just yet!
Sophie wrote: "On the classics note, I've been trying to work my way through the 1001 books to read before you die list. Really not been getting very far, but the extra points may be the boost I need!"Is Crime and Punishment on that list? If it is, do you want to semi-buddy read it?
Melindam wrote: "Elisabeth wrote: "Hi Everyone. Great to be here. It's late and I'll read through the thread in the morning but wanted to check in.Sophie, Mel or Karen, I discoverd that the link for my name goes ..."
Thanks for fixing that Mel, I've written down the profile number.
I'm in Canberra, I'm retired and now do the things I really enjoy which are reading, writing, playing tennis and playing clarinet. I did a performance degree decades ago and now play in a community orchestra which is a lot of fun and makes me practise a lot. I also play in a wind trio which has been going for about 35 years doing weddings, parties, concerts etc
I'll read just about anything and have made a point in the last few years of reading classics I should have read but haven't. At the moment I'm rereading Temporary Kings the eleventh book in A Dance To The Music Of Time series by Anthony Powell. I love that series and reread the twelve books about every four or five years. I read a lot of crime but taking paret in challenges pushes me to read all sorts of things which is the aspect I really enjoy.
I have a historical classic lined up-- Dr Thorne by Anthony Trollope. Gives us the 100 yr old points.
Hi everyone! I'm Sana from Pakistan and am so excited for this challenge. I need a break from RL. We moved into new house a week ago and there is still so much to be done. I own a lot of classics and this challenge is prefect for reading some of them. Most of my books are still in boxes.
Looking forward to knowing you all.

Richard wrote: "Nice to meet you Elisabeth. I also play the clarinet! 😎"A man of taste and discernment! I'm classical only. How about you?
Sana, glad to have you here with us! :) Moving houses.... while exciting, it can definitely be exhausting! Hope you'll be able to sort out soon everything to your satisfaction and to enjoy your new home.
Elisabeth & Richard, how absolutely lovely to have 2 clarinet players in our team! While I don't play any instruments, I love classical music and the clarinet is my favourite instrument. I have a collection of CDs/Vinyl records with Baroque/Classical clarinet pieces. ♡
Elisabeth wrote: "A man of taste and discernment! I'm classical only. How about you?"Thank you for your kind words.
I used to play classical all the time as a child & teen, where I'd play in various local orchestras (like band camps or in the pit at musicals). I stopped playing for about 20 years. Then when covid hit & I started working from home, I picked it up again to play in my breaks.
I find I can't read music anymore, but I can now play along to any music that I listen to, by ear. And that can be in any genre. I'm particularly fond of playing along in a jazzy or funky style.
Welcome everyone!
Our first word is HOUSEHOLD BUDGET
I will take the opportunity to start with
when the challenge starts, which Mel recommended to me last year :)

I hope you'll like it Karen, especially if you are going with the audiobook. I think it's the best way to listen to David Mitchell narrating it as well. 😊The wheel went for our jugular right away with the double Us. 😅
And now I will be able to go on with my historical fiction series, The House of Niccolo by Dorothy Dunnett, as the next book in the series is The Unicorn Hunt. While it was 1st published in 1993, it's over 600 pages, so some extra points will be incoming anyway.😊
I'm also planning on reading Herbert Von Karajan: A Life in Music with an O-author and 800+ pages, but that will be a slower process as there is no audiobook version and I'm always a bit slower with physical/e-books. I will finish by the end of the round, though.
