VT Christian Reading Challenge discussion

Just started Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand. It’s been fun so far! Leaves are beginning to cascade onto the yard. The mornings are chilly. Fall is definitely here.

How about you guys? Has fall settled in yet? What’s on your reading list?

I am down to 1 of my choice and 2 for Christian Living. I am reading a couple theology books that all have section on Christian Living but I think that is cheating. It is amazing how Christian Theology leads into Christian Living.

It just dipped down yesterday here but we do not get real winter in the south.

Hi all. Happy November. Only 57 more days left.

Best: The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt. Imagine an Andrew Clements book written about the 60s. A student feels singled out as he is the only student left in a class every Wednesday afternoon. Just a fun adventure.

Worse: Grey Dog by Elliott Gish. A school teacher flees to a new town as she struggle with her past... This was just bad as I was hoping for horror book but it was a woe is me journal.

Surprise: On the Jews and Their Lies by Martin Luther (Yes that Martin Luther). I was hoping he would have examples of why there was so much hate but most of it triggered my evangelist heart to belove the people.

Is it really just 57 days?!

Best:

Lenten Lands by Douglas Gresham. This was an interesting take on CS Lewis’s life from the perspective of his stepson (Joy Davidson’s son). I enjoyed seeing this great “super star” of the faith through the eyes of a boy. It made the man more human.

Worst: The Last Mrs. Parrish. Not so much in terms of writing, but definitely in terms of deplorable characters! The depth of “icky” is just awful sometimes.

Surprise: Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand. A quaint English tale, I thought it was kind of fun.
